Tires wheels on a 550

I need to replace both the tires and the wheels on my 550. The 13.6-26 tires are hard to find now and very pricey when you do. I was wondering what others are doing. Some of the 550s had 13.6-28 tires. I found a pair of 28 centers, then all I would have to do is buy two new loop style wheels. The 28 inch tires are more popular and decently priced however I don't want to do something I will regret later. Thanks

the tire size shouldn't matter as to anything serious. What you will find is that whatever gear you are in, you will be going a little fater than before.

Where are you located? Here in the midwest a lot of older smaller combines had 26 inch tires and they can be purchased fairly reasonable. Trouble is those combines are geting less and less as well.

We own 5 550"s and have been going to the 13.6-28 size. Not much of a difference in profile but a big difference in price. I"m not sure how much longer you"ll even be able to get the Firestone 13.6-26.

My brother is doing exactly that, going to the 28" rears. I think with brand new centers, rims, tires, tubes, and fluid, he said it was gonna run him a little over $1000 or maybe $1200.

If he was gonna stay with the 26's he'd have to buy new rims as the previous owner never fixed the leaky valve stem and the rims are rotted out a little bit. The tires on it now are mis-matched and one is wore kinda funny.

That sounds exactly what i have run into. My wheels are bad and the tires are shot. Sounds like there isn't alot of difference in the 26 and the 28.

You can get the 26" wheels from robertstractor.com or 28" or 24" size tire. 10"or12" width wheel. i like the ground speed and holding power of a 14.9 26 they way cheaper than the old 13.6 tires.u can also get a 24" wheel and use a 14.9 24 size tire. they sell centers also new and used. great folks to deal with
