TISCO paint

From what I have read in the archived threads, TISCO paint for Persian #1 is decent quality. It is MUCH less expensive than PPG 60080 $50 vs. $245 per gallon).

However, the paint supply store with PPG (acrylic enamel) said that PPG also required a reducer and catalyst. Is the TISCO paint also an acrylic enamel? Does the TISCO paint sold on yesterdays tractors also require a reducer and catalyst?

I don't know anything about painting, so any input will be very helpful,

Reducer yes as to the other I don't know. I do know when I used it I did use a hardener in it. The hardener makes it hold up better and also makes it shine more

The Tisco paint is an alkyd paint. It is not nearly the quality of PPG. It looks good after the paint job, but if left in the sun, it fades quickly. If you leave the tractor inside when not using it, you'll be okay. One thing about the cheaper paint, you don't worry about a scratch so much.
You do need the additive to make it harder.

Chad - I paid $89 a gallon for PPG Omni Acrylic Enamal (MAE) for PO #2 (60396) in 2006 to paint my D17 Sereis IV. That price included reducer, hardner and mixing supplies. I also had some of it loaded into spray cans for an extra $5 each for touch ups. Took 1.25 gallons to paint my tractor.

Reducer is just thinner. Hardner is very nasty stuff though. A supplied air hood is recommended when spraying it. I'm not a painter so I had someone else paint my tractor that had the equipment and expertise and they did a great job for a very reasonable price.

But in the end you get what you pay for as it's been said. I'd spend the extra money to get the better PPG paint if I was redoing a whole tractor. For an implement, that's different. Mike

I believe Tisco paint is a synthetic enamel. You don't need to use hardener but you will need to use reducer. Without hardener it will fade, and turn color. I would use a higher quality paint. As Jim Shoe said, "You get what you paid for."

It WILL fade with or without hardener. The hardener does make it shinier. If you don"t use hardener, it will be wet for days. If you want it to look great for a long time, use the better stuff.

ppg paint is not quite that much. I painted 2 trctors with ppg no problems. its very good paint.

If I could get PPG for that cheap, then I will surely use it. I have 3 choices for PPG from my local paint store (the only one in town)

1. Acrylic-enamel $245/gallon plus needs reducer and catlyst
2. OMNI $155/gallon, needs catlyst
3. Basecoat ($100/gallon) + clear coat ($150/gal)

Can I order any of these 3 online to save money?
