TO 20 Voltage Regulator testing

Guys, I am new to this side of the site, I usually spend my time on the Ford site, but father in law has TO20 and generator light stays on all the time. Are there any step by step trouble shoot instructions around so I can help him methodically pinpoint the problem? We both think it's the Voltage regulator. Thanks, my 8N has 12 volt conversion so I don't know a thing about 6 volt systems.

Give me your e-mail address and I will send you a trouble shooting chart. Two key tests are the generator motor test and the test to bypass the regulator. Do you have a simple voltmeter. Also is this a Delco, Lucas or Auto-Lite generator?

If it's a TO-20, it should be a Delco.

I got one with a Lucas generator and one with a Autolite Generator
