TO 30 Battery Cables

Has anyone found a source for properly made (correct guage, length) batt cables for a 6 volt TO 30? I have been having intermittent starting issues-- weak spark at distributer, but 6.3 volts and I'm assuming low amps... I have clean and tight connections, but she's still a hard starter, especially when she sits for a few weeks. Thanks in advance.

Check with auto parts stores or industrial battery suppliers. They often make cables on site.
Purchase the "thickest" cable you can get.
0 Guage or 00 Guage.
Negative length does not change.
BUT, Measure from POS. post on battery down side of tractor to bolt that mounts starter to tractor--and have your POS. cable made that length. You will also want to take that bolt out of starter and take with you so they will crimp a "loop" on the cable end that bolt will go through. Wire brush that bold area REAL well and make that your new location for the ground (pos.) on the tractor. -the short braided strap to dash is too risky. After all these years, there is NO way that all those bolted connections from dash on down are still shiney.
Your new cable to starter bolt just by-passed several questionable joints.

The original size was 02, but bigger is better. You can buy the material you need to make your own from the Brillman Co at 888-Brillman and ordr his catalog. I made my own and have had battery specialty stores make to order too. I love the 6v system too. Works great for me.

Another item to check is the connections on the starter switch. It sits just in front of the steering column - follow the wire back from the starter.
I had hard starting problems with my TE20 which I chased down to a bent connector on the starter side of the switch which was grounding out whenever I tried to start the thing. Its a nice warm flat spot for critters to lay in, at least I believe thats how mine got bent.

A quick way to check if the cable is your problem is to get a jumper cable in the largest size possible and connect it from the battery ground to a bolt on the bellhousing and see if your problem disappears. If so, the ground cable is your issue.
