To replace tires or not to replace

My 1948 8n project has 16" wheels on the front, and the previous owner had put truck tires on it. They have good tread, but are somewhat dry rotted. Other than that there's nothing really "wrong" with them other than they don't look great and are not true tractor tires. I'm in the process of restoring this old 8n one thing at a time. Would you guys replace the truck tires on the front with tractor tires? I guess for it to be a true restoration, they would definately need to go. I'm just wondering what some of you all would do?

ribbed tires aint tha best thing for shredding and street tread aint too good for plowin...yer choice

Nope, still working through trying to fix all the mechanical issues first. Still have more body work to do on the sheet metal too.

I'd look for a complete set of wheels with tractor tires from a parts tractor for it.

As for my 9N, I had one bad 3-rib tire and one perfectly good one. I wanted them to match, so I bought a new pair from Tucker Tire and put them on.

I have a beautiful set of 15" rims, yes they are 15" rims, that somebody made so they could run a wider selection of tires on the front end. But I decided to go back to the original 19" rims and tires because it just didn't look right to me with those CAR tires on there.

Well if your going to just use it then leave them if its isn't broke don't fix it but if your going for look looks then ya replace them. My 1947 Allis WC speed partol has bad rear tires on it has has for 10-20 years but since they keep holding air and I use it I'm not going to replace them till they will no longer hold air and do the job

I'm with old.. if it is a parade tractor.. replace them.. if it is a worker.. I only replace rubber once it falls off the rim.

If you do repalce the rubber.. consider getting 2 new rims and new tubes and tires.. and save the old ones for spares.. just depends on your usage and needs ... etc.

All my tractors work for a living so the tires stay on until they die of old age.
