TO20 Sleeves

My TO20 dropped a valve through the piston and through the sleeve. Question on sleeves before I purchase an overhaul kit... It looks like the sleeves in the overaul kits are overbored to 3 5/16". Do these larger sleeves fit into the existing block (3 3/16" current sleeves), or do I need to take the block to a machine shop and have them bore the cylinders? If they fit into the current cylinders, does that imply the new sleeves have thinner walls? Any advice would be great before I spend the money. Thanks in advance.

I took the 5/16th sleeves from a cracked block and put them in another block that had 3/16th sleeves with out any issues. The OD is the same size.

The overbored sleeves fit in your block just fine, the OD is the same as the original. No machine work is necessary. Don't forget to replace the rubber O-rings at the bottom of the sleeve when you replace them. The sleeves are simply an easy press fit, literally can be seated in the block bore by pressing with the palm of your hand as long as the block bore is clean and the sleeve/O-rings are lubed as recommended by the Ferguson shop manual.
If only one piston/sleeve is damaged and the others are fine, you can replace just the one bad sleeve/piston, plus new head gasket & pan gasket, and of course new valve(s) for that cylinder. Much cheaper than a full rebuild kit. More than one guy is driving around a TO with one overbored sleeve, and 3 factory bore sleeve. Doesn't hurt a thing as long as you keep the right pistons with the right sleeves. Since one valve dropped, I recommend going through all your valve retainers and guides to make sure the rest are sturdy and tight to prevent future problems.
