how many more people need to make pullers? There are 2 more for sale. one a GB with 800 block asking $10000 and another GVI with 800 block asking $13500. Someone near me said they have a neigbor with a GVI puller asking $20000. It seems like people are selling their pullers because they can't afford them. The question is, why did you do it if you knew how expensive it would become." Those tractors that are modified are now usless for farming. I've been trying to find a 605 or 800 around me for farm use so I can run bio-fuel in it to power the farm + extra. Everything around me was bought up for pullers or by some city person that makes countless amount of money. The only power unit I got is a running 336 lp. I was going to use that for a sationary feed grinder. Im sure if i didn't get that someone would have it by now in a puller.

Modified pullers are just a way to break parts. For example a tractor that is rated for 70 HP was not designed to run a 800 block that can put out 200-600 HP. It may work for the 20 pulls, maybe 100, but that is alot of stress on gears and bearings. Instead of putting a 800 block in it, why didn't you just go alittle futhur and put a jet engine in it. (but that is just outragious)

Overall, true competion between tractor brands is by original stock. once you modify it, all it becomes then is a big pi##ing contest.

Get over it, there is plenty of old tractors and parts and whatever out there. I know where there is 20 maybe 30 800 power units sitting in a 50 mile radius area along with 10 or so GVI's. They are not being used for anything just sitting in the fence row in the weather and elements. So whats it to you if someone buys them and puts them together for tractor pulling. If they were still useable they wouldnt be wasting way. I know plenty of farmers,collectors, and city folk that pull tractors and its something they enjoy if you dont like it just keep it to yourself.

i am with randy. there are alot of tractors left out there and if you want one bad enough you will go get it. i wanted a u moline and i couldnt find any around me so i got one from pa and another from missouri. anyway i have worked the same job for the last 23 years and if i want to spend 10 or 20000 for a puller who has the right to tell me not to. i think if someone has the money or can get the money legally and wants to put that in a puller then more power to them and if it costs to much to run in the future then you done what you wanted. life is too short to sit back and say i should have done something. my 2 cents worth

now that said, jd and randy, he does have a slight point. I know there are tractors out there, but they are getting harder and harder to find. otherwise, 40rt, things arnt cheap anymore, things have gone up in price. I got a 62 G706D in school and so far have spent nearly $10,000 to buy and fix it up for farm use. the only modification is .040 pistons because .020 are too costy. Since prices have gone up, if I were to sell my 706 I would probibly want $30,000 for it all because it is going to be restored, my labor time, new tires, air conditioning/heat, 6 halogen lights, and a few other minor things. But i would never sell it because I will have a 100 HP new looking and running tractor for $10000, where a new one cost $70000-100000+.

Now thats my 10 cents. (inflation you know)

I pull tractors too. I've never taken a good "useable" tractor and made a puller out of it. I think it is just as good for us pullers to fix these older tractors up and keep the names alive. There are alot of people my age who have never heard of Molines, Olivers, and several other names, but now know what they are because of us pullers. Before you go complaining about us pullers remember we are doing as much as some of you "collectors" to keep these tractors out there for our kids too.

I'm mainly interested in old tractors for the cultural heritage and historical significance - and slowly but surely, that era of equipment is dwindling.

I like seeing the truly stock tractors perform, but hopping them up is a little like NASCAR - only without the reflexes... Whoever has the most money and technology will win.

Not that impressive to me - the old 360 horse Versatile with water in all 8 20.8x38's beats all I ever saw for pulling and I spent too many hours on it to be amazed anymore by little souped-up tractors...

But like some of them said - it's their money, they can do what they want...

Besides, the more parts get busted up to just be melted down, the more the old originals are worth...

Yeah can those be bought? Or are they just going to sit there and go completely to waste? Or have spent 10,000.00 or so to build a puller out of it and try and sell it for what you have in it cause you can't make a go of it? Or park that one in a fence row as well because there was no buyers for it and throw away the 10,000.00

Just questions is all! Some people need to learn the value of a dollar and along with the learning curve learn that Minneapolis Moline has been out of bussiness since 1973. That's been 35 years and some of those parts haven't been made even longer than that, and folks when there all gone there gone. The NOS parts are drying up. MM at the high point of their times was still ranked number 9th as far as tractor companys goes. Also take a look around and see where you can get all the parts you need to overhaul a 585 or 800 top to bottom with out hunting here and there for a part and piece to make it all come together. Look at this site they state they carry MM parts but it is very very narrow compaired to the number of MM models the company really made.

But what the hey it is your money, time, and heartache. Besure and park them in a fencerow close to the road so all can see when they drive by. My three cents worth!

I can't that pullers are doing anything wrong here. It is their money and if they can put one together and sell it $20,000 more power to them. I see the waste coming from these guys that buy up all these old tractors and park them and let them rust away. Now there just something wrong there I believe, if your not planning to fix it up don't buy it.

I grew up on a farm and I never heard of a Minneapolis Moline until I went to my first tractor pull. I am working on building a puller right now. One of the guys I work with had it sitting out in the weeds that he was going to send to a scrap yard ( not for parts) so I bought it from him. How is that wrong? Also alot of these tractors are to small for modern farms, about the only thing my UB would be big enough to do on the farm I work for would be pushing in feed in the freestall barn.

I'am not into pulling, my collection is traditional stock as close to originality as I can get it. But the pullers are doing us all a favor by keeping the retail price up on all these old tractors. If it wasn't for pullers these old tractors would find there way to the scrap yard sooner, I don't think there are enough restorers left anymore.

Everyone has made a good point here, on both sides. It did change my mind on pullers some, but I still hate to see a tractor worked over or parted out for pulling when I would love to have one to tinker with on the farm and use in the field but cant find or afford anymore...just my opinion. My dad and I used to go to antique tractor pulls but stopped going because not everything was antique anymore. When you have a WD AC running 2000-2200 RPM, or a two cyl. A JD that sounds like a 4 cyl running down the track...where is the antique part anymore? I know there are antique and then ther are the other modified pulls. The same people went to all the antique pulls so when you go you see the same thing you did at the last one. The funniest thing I heard was two older gentleman in the front row make a comment about how those old JDs could really pull. My dad and I thought that was funny. The most fun (in my opinion) was when years ago at the county fair they had a tractor pull of tractors right out of the field. I remember seeing JD 3020s,4020s,830,930 Cases, M670 G1000 MMs, D19 ACs...it still wouldnt be a fair fight because someones might be more wore out than the next one but it was more neighbor to neighbor and tractor to tractor to see what was really better...

Tractor pulling is keeping more and more tractors alive. I have both unrestored collector machines and pulling projects. Some made completely from fencerow and leftover parts. I won't hurt a nice original piece, but if I tinker for pulling, my spare parts have been sold and used to keep many a stock tractor going. I've also bought parts off pullers that my stockers needed to be complete. Pulling lets some of us folk without farms get a chance to work our old iron too. Some folks have been motivated to buy some old minnies after seeing my puller. They like to hear that big deep sound whether it's on a plow or on a clay track. Especially when it succesfully drowns out the usual "put-put" we are forced to listen to over and over (haha).

I was just reading all of the things I missed while at the Gering, NE show. I think some certain people have lost it in the past 5 or so days. A $30,000 G706! Getting mad about a three letter abbreviation! Complaining about pulling tractors ruining "good" tractors! Scrapping 4 MM's because scrap is up! I know what I am going to do tomorrow: I am going to turn my G706 into a bored/stroked 800 CI pulling machine, name it P.O.S. in big letters down both sides, put it up for sale for some insane amount, but before anyone laughs at the price, I will scrap it because it's up to $150 a ton. If you, or you children who are reading this are offended, maybe you shoud write to nnalert and have her do something about it. Until then - zip it!
