Tool box treasures

I love bringing home a new old tractor and checking out what all the stuff in the toolbox. never find anything of value mostly rusty nails, bent bolts and such. Has anyone here ever hit a jackpot?

A whole set of Snap On combo wrenches in an Allis WD 45. Paid 900 for the tractor and the wrenches are worth about 180

My dad use to buy the 5 gallon buckets of junk at auctions just to see what he could find in the bottom.

He found some good stuff at the bottom of some of those buckets.

Best I have done was a working IH magneto in an old wooden crate. Cost me $1.

When I bought my first H it came with a couple of wrenches and two extra sickles for the mower that was on it... my second H had a good battery box and PTO shield - not a toolbox find, but nice to have anyway!

Don't know that it was really a treasure,but Dad bought an IH 300 utility in Archbold when I was a kid. It had cotton boles with the seeds still in them in the tool box. Figured it must have come up from Sikeston or something. Not something you see in mid Michigan every day.

Went to an auction in Kentucky several months ago. Bought an MM GVI. There was a local man and friend of the man whose tractors were being sold (due to death) who met me a couple of weeks before the auction to show me the tractors. He bought a JD 435 at the same auction. When I got the GVI home, I found a shop manual for the 435 in the tool box of the GVI. I called the guy and got his address and sent it to him. He was pleased and I felt good for being able to do something nice for him after he helped me out.

The best we have had was in the toolbox of a '39 Farmall F-14. An extra air cleaner top, had some rust, brought $56.00 on eBay. It also had shutter rod brackets in the toolox, we got $19.99 for them.

I bought a 69 Olds cutlass once for $25. in the trunk was a tool box full of snap-on wrenches and some craftsman, the good old ones! The people didn"t want them back! (The son whos car it was was a drunk driving expert and they dismantled the engine to keep him from driving it)

Well I didn't find it, and it wasn't in the toolbox, but one of the local tractor swapper/restores went to an estate auction years ago of a very eccentric man that had money....some of it not found after he died....in particular was his coin collection,that could not be found.This individual bought a farmall H or M for parts that was stored in the garage and hadn't run in years ...loads it up on his trailer,gets it home and lets it sit for a wile before starting to take it apart.when he went to remove the gas tank he could not lift it off the tractor....guess who found the coin collection????If you ask him today if he found it , he will deny it , but shortly after these events supposidly took place , his standard of living increased with no other apparent source of income increase , and his Kids started going to better colleges.....Hell I don't blame him for not 'fess'n up ...that is when everyone is your friend, and they all want to borrow money.Oh and since the auction was an "as is where is" he would not have been legaly obligated to inform the Estate of the deceased man, just the tax man when he sells said coins....I don't know if it is true but it still keeps me going to auctions and checking gas caps....

We bought an IH 46 wire baler last summer for $300 she tossed in a couple of old lights off an IH track layer I got $85 for them on E-Bay.
alway nice to come out good on a deal.
