I have had this Oxy-Accetlene torch for over 30+ years and no problems with heating and cutting. I bought the propane tip and have it hooked to a 30# tank and if I do get it to light it wants to go out in 5-10 seconds and if I actually do get it to stay lit the heat is all way away from the tip and spread out so far it wants to have the flame licking at my hand on the barl of the torch and I could not get it hot enough to start to get a 1/2" nut hot enough to loosten the rust. What do I need to do to get it working?

It sounds like a regulator problem to me. I don't know the proper settings but they are different then when you used acetalene.
Maybe somebody else who uses propane will help.

I use 10-PSI with propane.
Without being there, and seeing / hearing what's going on it's very hard for me to say what the problem is. But my first thought is the cutting tip is not seating properly, or wrong tip, or even as simple as loose.

I had the tip for the acetlene with me when I bought the new ones, no 1 fits and that is what I was trying, the no. 3 is too large a diameter to fit in the mounting nut, set on about 8-9# on the propane and that is what a person that uses it with told me that he uses.

Other than being a propane tip, (probably 2 piece)is the seating area exactly the same as the acetylene tip? Some tips are very similar but not for the same torch. What kind of torch do you have? The #3 is obviously for a different torch. Also make certain it is a propane tip and not for another fuel gas. Lighting propane it's common to turn the oxygen on a little before you light it and/or hold it on an angle on a piece of plate to light it. Just thought of something, is it a 2 piece tip that the inner part is missing? That would make for big out of control flame.

My propane torch is a Smith. I haven't used it for quite a while (I have a plaz cutter now), but if I remember correctly, I use ten pounds on the propane and 25 on the oxygen. I know the acetylene rosebud does not work with propane. I don't remember why. That was probably around 25 years ago.

Propane needs more pressure than acetylene but oxygen is about the same.
