Tornado hit our farm

Given the heartbreaking reports coming out of OK, this seems relatively minor... but our farm in Central Illinois got hit by either a tornado or extremely high straight winds tonight. Family is all okay and the house is standing with apparently minimal damage (I'm at my dad's house in GA right now, driving home first thing tomorrow), and the initial report is that the back half of our large machine shed (where I store the 8N and AC 190) is *gone*. It was still storming and already dark when I talked to my wife, so we really don't know more than that until daylight.

I'm very thankful to The Lord for sparing my family - all the other stuff is "wood, hay and in the corn stubble across the road..."

Fema ????? National Guard ????

With all of the disasters that have happened these past couple of Months, has anyone heard if they have been there?? All I see is the Red Cross and local people helping people!!

There have been hundreds left homeless in West Tx, Granbury Texas and the fires in California !!

I hear nothing about FEMA helping the victims!!

As I understand it FEMA is not the first responder in these situations, that job falls to the local police, fire, Red Cross, state disaster management and perhaps then the state Guard. FEMA has no direct resources like a troop of men, material and equipment to muster for these situations. Quit relying on, or expecting, a feckless federal government to bail you out of a bad situation!

Prayer of thanks for your family's survival Ed - hope the
damage is not too bad. Friends of ours are in Moore OK and
the family ( including 3kids) all survived and house is one of
the few still standing, but pretty well messed up. Houses
across the street in front are all gone and houses across the
street on the back yard side seem to be untouched - too close
for comfort for sure.

Many thanks, all for your thoughts and prayers. I now know the answer to the question regarding a machine shed: "Will it blend?"

Will post some pics in a new thread hopefully tonight. We're in the initial "triage" stages right now.

The 8N has some new dents, but once we lift the debris away, I should be able to drive it out. The hydraulic valve bank on the AC didn't fare well, and will need a complete rebuild before I can use it. Back window in the F-150 was busted out, and it has a few new dents, too.

Again, we are very thankful to God for His protection of my family... And thanks to you all again!

So glad you and your family/friends are safe. My house/71 acres got hit by an F4 tornado 2 years ago on my birthday. Big mess, but we were so thankful to the Lord above we were not killed. I got a friendly reminder with a titanium plate in my neck and my dear wife for 36 years got a broken leg (non-moving bone so not too bad as breaks go). It could have been so much worse. My prayers and thoughts are with those that have been devastated.
