tow behind tiller

I'm thinking about buying a tow behind tiller for my lawn tractor. I've had both hips replaced three times each within 6 months and am afraid I can't use a walk behind due to restrictions of hips. I can't lift over 40 lbs. I was wanting some feedback on these tillers. Thanks Rick

I bought an Agrifab tiller last year. I'm not to impressed with it. You'll want a decent sized lawn mower for it and hydrostat. You have to drive very very slow. Mine's a gutless wonder. If it hits a harder spot it about kills the engine but I do have hard ground. If it had at least twice as much power it would be pretty nice. If you have decent ground I think you'll like it just don't count on breaking new ground.

You'll also want a garden tractor to pull it. The average riding mower will be torn up pretty bad by one of those things. Neither the hitch or the transmission will take the beating.

They will whip through garden soil pretty fast, but its seems everything has trouble breaking out sod - and these do too.

Do you already own a tiller? Is it a rear tine self propelled? If so, possibly mount a sulky to it and let it do all the work? Just a thought. Found this picture to give you an idea.

The hip replacement sounds like a horror story. What happened and do you have advice for someone who is contemplating a hip replacement? I had a friend who died of blood clots 3 days after that procedure.

Hi kito169, I have been researching and considering a pull behind tiller also, a couple of Guys I've talked to just loved theirs, these are the first posts I've seen in the negative probably has a lot to do with the soil type and whether it is sod or previously worked.

I've got one too, and same story as yours, but, i got it for tight spots, and it is better than wrestling with a walkalong for sure. Now, in turf that never been worked, this is a joke, so I plowed with my one bottom, it was alot easier, still slow, but still better than walking. Can't use a lawn mower on furrowed ground... so i hooked it to the Allis CA, now we are cooking, it can sit in one spot and bounce all day till it got the ground worked, no harm to me or the allis. 2nd year, over the old gardens, now it does fine behind a lawn mower if that's all you got, but we'll say it needs alot of patience on fresh ground. Never stalled, but jumped 5 feet high every 4 seconds on roots....

SORRY to hear about all the crap you've gone through and I hope you are making a GREAT recovery!

NOT to be a S.A. but simply BUYING the basic fresh vegetables you need will cost WAY less than the course of events you are considering!

They work good and if you have a Sears or Cat 0 hitch on your garden tractor Sears,Wards,Brinly and a few more companies built tillers that lifted by the 3pt that had their own engines.Either way they work good

Guess its been awhile since you been to the grocery store. He can grow several thousand $$$$
worth of vegetables in a garden in one year plus better quality and they won't be picked by folks that just scratched a private spot before they hit the fields
