Traction Boost

Traction boost is draft control, AC style. You set the lever into a notch on the quadrant by the steering wheel, and that automatically sets the resistance, detects wheel slippage, and picks up the plow or disc or implement, a little, to let you get through a sticky spot in the field. The farther up the quadrant you set the lever, the quicker it responds. That is assuming the linkage is adjusted correctly. When in doubt, read your manual.
 
Didn't have that on my WD. I just got the WD-45. Ordered an operator's manual but don't have it yet. So, it's the lever on the right side (hydraulic lever)of the steering wheel?
 
the wd's had the traction booster also same as the 45's, only differance was the 45 had the guage and the wd did not. READ YOUR WD OPERATORS MANUAL.
 
The traction Booster on these (Both) works the same, only the WD-45 has a gauge...as you get used to it, you don't really need the gauge...

There is a large coil spring under the transmission that is built into the hitch and the PTO shaft goes right thru it..
As the load on--let's say, an AC Plow-- increases, that spring starts to compress..
The lever on the LEFT side of the steering wheel is the Hydrolic lever.. the Traction Booster is built into the system, when the settings on the Hydrolic pump and linkage attached to it are set for "Traction Booster".
Under a darned good load, raising the Hydrolic lever a certain amount will lift some weight off the front of the tractor and improve traction..
I say "certain amount", as the amount depends on how worn the plow shares are, and the plowing conditions..
Good Shares and Hard plowing conditions and the front may be lifted off the ground with the Hydrolic lever all the way DOWN..!
In easy-plowing, but wet conditions, you may need to lift the lever more than half way to get weight transfer..
This was a Very Good System..and will work with an add-on snap-coupler 3-point hitch, too...!

You should get the idea from what BP and DD said. The spring is compressed by the load of pulling the MOUNTED plow. When the rear wheels lose traction, the spring de-compresses a bit due to the slowing of the ground speed. That spring is connected to a linkage- flat bar- that goes up to the hydraulic valve on the right side of the tractor. The linkage SLIGHTLY raises the plow, which puts plow/dirt weight onto the rear of the tractor, so the wheels gain THAT weight and thus gain traction. WD had it, but no gauge. Gauge on the WD45, with the Lift Lever- the one on the left side of the quadrant- set midway or so, would fluctuate as plowing conditions varied. Lift it too high, and the plow will raise out of the ground, or not maintain an even depth. Too low, not much weight transfer occurs. Spring has some washers on it, factory set. No need to mess with it unless someone else did. Same with the flat bar. Pretty sure it is the service manual that addresses the adjustment to check if it is right. I&T manual would be AC-11.
 
Same as your WD. As the spring compresses due to an increase in load that tells the hydraulic system to put some up pressure to transfer weight BEFORE the wheels slip. If adjusted correctly you will NOT change working depth. Works like picking up a feed sack. You can transfer almost all of the weight to your feet before you actually lift the sack.
