Traction in the snow

What would give better traction in the snow for plowing a paved drive, AG Tires, AG Tires with chains, or Turf Tires with Chains? I have been using AG tires on my Ford NAA, but do not get very good traction. I have a set of Turf Tires and was thinking the chains would work better on the turfs. I am leery the chains effectiveness would get lost in the lugs of the AG Tire. Thank you for your thoughts.

Depands on the design of the chains. The ones with the bar chaings....str8 across will help to a certain point with AG tires but and spin and grab too. Whats called field chains here in MN with the X pattern work very well with AG rubber.

Chains will work better on your turf tires than they will on AG tires.

X type and double ring chains will work well with AG tires but ladder types may not depending upon fit and tread depth.

Way to many variables to that. My self I do not use chains unless we also have ice but I also use a front end loader and a V plow and have fluid in the tires and a back blade with a lot of weights on the blade and run Ag tires. I plow a mile plus with that set up and it does well but conditions change so the way you do things also have to. Hnads down on snow Ag tires will do better then turf tires with out chains. As for which is better with chains depends on the type of chains. Ones that will not fall in side the tread will do better on Ag tires then one that will. As I said to many variables

Never ran turf tires with chains on a large tractor so I can't comment on them.

I will say that AG tires are ok in the snow but a set of ring chains or X chains will make the the tractor perform much better when its sluppery. Personally I wouldn't even monkey around in the winter without putting chains on. Just so much easier to move around with chains than not. But then again we get a lot of snow UP this way so I like making the job of plowing as quick and painless as possible.

I run 23 degree firestones with chains, sometimes they spin a
little but always bite.

paved driveways are tough here in the snow belt- tires slip
most 'paved' plow guys use turfs and chains
(or better yet- snowblowers)
gravel driveways, Ags and chains work better in deep snow

either tire, lots and lots of weight
I run Ags, chains, filled tires, wheel weights, and a Big counterweight
remember when plowing snow, momentum is everything
trying to move heavy, deep snow from a standing start would
probably stop a tank.....

ps watch out on old paved driveways. under the right conditions, a
heavily weighted tractor with chains can tear a hole thru old, cracked
asphalt, if the tires get spinning. BTDT
