Tractor envy?

I stopped at a local dealer, and noticed a really nice tractor, 45hp, oem loader, 4wd, for a real nice price. I can afford to pay cash. I have been looking for a smaller 4wd with a loader. I only have 10 acres. Do you think this brute is too big? I have been just about salivating over the thing. I know I don't need 45 hp, but wow, what a machine.....

Kind of like cutting a board, better to have to much than not enough. Get it, 45 hp is about the right size to do anything around you 10 acres. You might buy more land one day.

We need more info to properly advise you. Yes 45 HP is a good size for 10 acres but what make of tractor is it? A real low price on a new tractor may soon turn into a real nightmare if it's not a name brand and parts aren't available. There are a bunch of tractors coming out of China that may or may not be any good. The nicest thing about buying a name brand popular tractor is that they have the bugs worked out and parts are readily available and will be for years to come. A good used tractor may even be a better choice and for probably less money. Give us some more info on the tractor you're looking at. Someone on here will be able to tell you if it's a good machine or if it's a low price for a reason. Dave

Don't have any experience on them, but Kubota's seem to have the best feedback around for Compact tractors. I'd say go for it.

WAY too big for practicial reasons. But hey-who cares? Good deal, you'll never be short on power, and its something you really want.

How do you figure it's too big? If you need to cut taller or wet grass you'll need more horsepower. The price is good for a Kubota. They are well built tractors. Dave

I agree. 45 Hp isn't all that much in the scheme of things. With a full time job off the farm, bigger and faster is better, even if it's just to cut the lawn. As long as it's in the price range anyways...

You have to remember, Lanse is only 14. He has no real and practical experience with this type of purchase.

I agree, I think 45HP for 10 acres is a good match. Kubota is well built and the price sounds good.

Usualy, the first two numbers of a Kubota are the horsepower, so it should be 37 horse. That'd make a nice tractor for 10 acres, and sounds like a pretty good deal. You'll get a ton of work done with it and they are bulletproof. I have a 40 horse tractor on just over 6 acres. It's a bit big for my needs, but better to have a larger one than you need than a smaller one and wish for more power.
