tractor inner tube patch

Bought a new rear inner tube for my AC 7020 and installed it yesterday, about an hour later I got a nail in the tire while going down the road heading for the field, brought it back to the shop broke it down and patched the tube, reinstalled it and a few minutes later it was going flat again.

Pulled the tube yet again and found the patch didn't hold, tried several times but no luck getting a patch to hold.

Just for the heck of it I tried to get a patch to hold in a few other spots using different patching glues but nothing will hold.

Anyone else run into this problem?
 
I have tried about everything too. Wished we could get the old hot patches again. Next time I'm going to try and patch one with some air in it, because I think it is pulling the patch loose when the tube is aired. Tube has to be sanded REAL clean. And I am always in a hurry and don't let the glue dry before applying the patch.
 
What I have found that works good when you run into this is a electric heat gun. Clean your tube, ribber boot/ rubber whatever up real clean. LOL Then wash it off with brake and parts cleaner. Then apply your tires cement/glue. Now take the electric heat gun and heat the area with the glue until the glue is dry and tube hot. Now install your patch. Roll it out flat just like you always do. Now heat the patch again with the heat gun. Let it cool and the patch will be stuck really tight.

I started doing this 5-6 years ago when I was trying to patch a tire when it was real cold and could not get the glue to dry. I have done it ever since. You can even patch the cheap rubber boots that usually the patch slides off of. Heating the glue makes it work 10 times better.

Also before you install the tube in the tire but some baby powder over the patch. This will keep the patched area from sticking to the inside of the tire.
 
From what I have been reading on here there are some of the imported tubes that are more of a plastic and they will not take a patch and they will also not stretch and those are the ones to stay away from. Only thing is look for anouther tube made out of better material. All tis will be in the archives.
 
I have run into this problem when I try mixing different brands of cement and patches. I air just the tube up and let set a while to check.
Also I stopped using the Victor/Monkeygrip brand of patches because they sometimes won"t stretch enough without coming lose even when using Victor/Monkeygrip cement.
The Tech brand is what most tire shops around here use.
 
I have run into that many times over the years. Big thing is clean and rough up the tube. Apply the glue and let ti sit 3-5 minutes then put the patch on and stitch it down real well then let it sit 5 minutes or so and air it up so as to make sure it holds
 
When I was real young I watched a neighbor use tire spoons to remove a truck tire to patch a tube. When he spread the one inch square of rubber cement on the tube, he then lit it with a match. After a few seconds he blew out the flame, sometimes he would reapply cement and repeat the process, sometimes he would just relight the cement. Then, when he deemed the spot was right, he would apply the patch. I always thought that was the way to do it. Still use spoons and matches to this day.
 
I had a Chinese tube that a patch would not stick to. I bought a replacment Firestone and it was also Chinese. It's very sad and frustrating to see such a world wide decline in the quality of manufactured items.
 
we patch from 1 to 10 tubes a day simply get good cement and set it on fire --don't get hot enough to deform tube they will stick everytime
 
I forgot to mention that the inflammable cement needs a lot more time to dry compared to flammable cement. We weren't waiting long enough when we first used the inflammable stuff and the patches would sometimes let loose.
