Tractor maintenance for dummy

I was just wondering at what interval do you guys
change oil and how many hooks between spark plug
changes etc As I am a dummy but trying to learn all
the dos donts in and outs of antique tractor
pulling Thank you in advance to all who offer help

If it's a naturally aspirated gas engine of mild performance, like a 4mph puller I don't even look at it. Build it right and you won't have much to do other than change oil once a season and if ambitious check the bearings, set the valves once a season. I use mine for an odd job now and then and never worry about it, but it doesn't get out for much action.

If it's our alky super we set the valves every pass and change the oil 2-4 passes. Spark plugs get a couple passes and I ohm the wires every few passes.clean the P valves, check the barrel valve leak down......

if it is a stock tractor think of how many hours you are using it 100 hours of use would probably take 5 years in a pulling tractor , i havent changed oil or plugs in my wc for 5 years , probably alot of condensation in bottom of oilpan though , these tractors were made for pulling a plow all day long in dusty conditions that is alot harder on them than 30 seconds down track

To clear up the confusion, yes, we cook the oil in a large kitchen roaster. Once it gets warm enough the methanol and wate rise to the top and evaporate.

So we have 2. Batches of oil, one in the tractor and one cooking, or ready for the next weeks change. Just add a fresh quart or 4 to make up what gets spilled, or blown off in the blowby tank......these engines make a lot of blowby

(quoted from post at 07:25:58 03/15/14) How? The oil would start on fire also

Because Methanol boils at 148.5 degrees F, oil boils somewhere in the 312 ish degrees F range. Heat the emulsion up over 150 degrees F and the methanol goes into the air.
