Tractor Pulling

Anyone ever pulled with a 8N or 9N? Pull is 15 miles away Saturday....Got some advice on the tractor pulling board. Im sure most people go with more HP. Seems worn tires are better to...My tires have some miles left on them..Just for fun so I can say been there done that...

Will this set up work ok? Bend the stay bars maybe? Or should I remove the stay bars and just use the drawbar with lower lift arms and sway bars?
I still need a

I am pretty fast on the clutch  Like no one has ever done it? Some of my class tractors are in the area to.... Michael over in Berghiem you in? Tex in driftwood is out...Going out of town...gahorN not you in?...So anyone else in the area in?

Thats the set up I use with a 42 2N in the 2500 class and a 47 2N in a 3000 class. I use a twisted clevis for the chain to hook into and get 1st to 3rd in 2500 and 4th and 5th in 3000. Your right tire will do better than your left. I run 6 psi for pulling.

If your tires are loaded;keep your foot on the clutch.
No fluild you'll hit your limit and sit and spin; still keep your foot on that cluth
be safe;god bless

One tire is loaded. Just had a new tube put in one tire. I need to load it  I run 12.4 X 28...I do have a set of 11.2x28 on hand but they need to be loaded to...I never new they had a pull over there or I would have been more prepaired LOL

What size clevis? I know that is one thing I need...TSC is on the way I have seen the twisted clevis's there before. Seemed like the best setup to me too...Glad you have tried it.

Can't say for sure as to your pull but most will not let you use a 3 point draw bar because you can raise it as you pull and change your traction. Also most pulls you have to have a hitch that measures X number is inches off the ground with in 2 or so inches. What you need is a swing type draw bar if your going to pull

Loaded tires will put you in the 3500 class and you will be pulling against much larger tractors. It will not do well at all with one loaded tire. The unloaded tire will spin out quickly. The 2N I pull has 9.5-32 tires and I remove the fenders to get down to 2500. The 47 has new 12.4-28 tires and wheel weights. Both sets are 22.5 degree tread.

Sean.........the holes in yer 11-hole drawbar are 7/8". Make certain the twisted clevis is WIDE enuff (1-1/4") to span the thickness of yer 11-hole drawbar. Listen to low tire pressure advice ........Dell

I forgot one other thing. With your 3 point draw bar that sits way out back like that your front wheels will be off the ground before you even get close to what the other tractors go. Thats another reason I say you need the up close under the rear end draw bar. Last pull I did I came in 4th out of 17 tractors and was 150 lbs light and ran to low a gear. I lost 1st by 6 inches. 2nd by 4 or 5 and 3rd by 1 inch

The smaller the better , but you need to check the rules for what is required. Our draw bar height has to be 20 inches to the top of the draw bar. The twisted clevis helps keep your hich point as high. You can also put washers between the top of the draw bar and clevis to keep it up higher.

Ya all depends on the club and the pull I know in my club they don't even have a class low enough for the N series tractors. I think ours start at a 3500lbs class and go up so it would be hard to get an 8N up that high and still do well in a pull. Plus in my club they have a 3MPH speed limit

Our club is just for antique tractors and starts at 2000lb. We also have the 3mph rule and the front tires cannot lift more than 16 inches during the pull.

Its a 9N A draw bar like a 8N has is not a option.. I guess something could be built and mounted to the fender brackets? To short of notice for me to pull that off. Wish I had seen the notice sooner. I stopped at a gas station for some beer yesterday and seen the sign on the counter...

Add weight to the front bumper?
This is just for fun BTW....I am not planning on first place...Love tractor pulls...I wanna pull and not watch for once

Thanks Dell. Ill have a look and have the tractor on hand. I will try it before I buy it...

(quoted from post at 21:01:38 07/25/08) You need to know what the weight classes are and get your tractor weighed before you can think about adding weight and were to add it.

Mark
So you run 2500? Unloaded tires and no weight up front? Im sure a N would not want to compete in a higher class. Just keep your foot on the clutch...Every pull I have seen the front tires get some air  Most tractors anyways...

I've tried it once and it was a lot of fun, however I didn't do too terribly well. I ran out of power before I ran out of traction, on pretty decent 11.2 x 28s. I didn't use any sway bars or stay bars, just the drawbar.

It was a fun pull, and I didn't really trust the distance anyways as it wasn't a really fancy sled, just a big platform with people stretched out every 20 feet to climb on. However I really enjoyed it.

Some lift is good because it shifts all the weight to the rear wheels. To much lift lowers your hitch point to much.
Do you know what weight classes they have?
The Ns don't have power enough to add weight and move into the higher classes.
Unloaded tires are your best bet, they are also much easier to adjust air pressure.

Most of all HAVE FUN

Flip yer tires around, Sean, put some weight on the lift, and pull backwards....

Safer that way, and we value you here!!!

Backwards... I would be laughed out of there...Can I use my rear blade as a wheelie bar? 8)

Ill be the first to admit....The green tractor are pretty impressive...Barely moving and pull that baby all the way...I only like the Antique pulls....Hot rod v8's...To loud!!! Ill bet a 901 would be a nice pulling machine..

You listening Larry? Houston is not that far...The Ford Machines need to show up..

I pull this 52 8n at least twice a month in the summer. It has a sherman transmision-13.6 tires on the rear. I pull 2500 -and 3500# classes. It has never finished out of the top five. I pulled a full pull on saturday with a four way tie for first out of 17 tractors, but finished 4th in the pull off. I have 3 other tractors that I pull but I have more fun with the 8n than any because most people have got the idea that they won"t pull. This tractor has never reared up, it always spins out. It"s all how you set them up.

Nice tractor...You are right. For 23 HP....They will pull!!

I have heard worn tires are better? Could be...

So they ad people to the sled to add weight

When I pulled it was just for fun also. But sure wish I could afford to do it more often but at almost $4 a gal. for gas I just can't do it. Of course I was no on a ford when I did my pull I was on my Oliver super 88 and it never ran out of power it just got to the point the front tires where about 2 foot off the ground the the rear tires throwing dirt all over the place. After I got done with the pull a lot of the guys who pulled in my same class told me if I had the 150 lbs weight I needed and had used 2nd instead of first I would have out pulled them and then some.

Not that far 35 or 40 feet ,this was a small show with say about 30 tractors there but on by a club from southwest lousiana. The only fords there were mine and a fellow with a nicely restored jubilee. He pulled about 5' foot more than I did. What I don't understand is that the super a that pulled right before me just about made a full pull. anyway I still believe that there was something fishy going on there. We had a good time regardless and I hated I couldn't go back this year

Thanks for the "heads-up" on the Tractor pull. I stopped in for a short while this morning and enjoyed the show. I pulled up just as the cannon fired off and I must say, that was better than a cup of coffee for waking up. I saw just one Ford Workmaster and plenty of red and green. Antique tractors, a Texas hill country pasture on a summer morning,...pure pleasure.
