Tractor shuts off

So I tried driving dad's 1937 B the other day it starts good idles good sounds really nice problem is when I push the clutch forward it dies did it three times and also in reverse. I'm not a mechanic any ideas what could be wrong. Oh and dad last summer was driving it all around ges yard so it was running great just last summer but then sat all winter

If it is not moving at all, it could be stuck in 2 gears. Seen that happen a lot over the years.

It will need to be above idle to take off without stalling.

I thought I had the throttle moved all the way forward or does it really move that hard

Is your engine speeding up as you move the lever forward ? If not it may have a governor issue or maybe the linkage fell off ?

Yeah I believe the engine is speeding up the tractor moves a little bit before it kills. You maybe right about the throttle I'm gunna try it next time and see if I can push it forward more. I'm just so causious with everything cause I don't want to break anything. It's stored at my grandma's right now and will prolly be a few days before I get back there but I really hope your right with the throttle. It sounds like it's not getting enough gass

No the brakes are unlocked it has that sound like it wants to take off but once it moves alittle it kills

The speed control lever on "Uncle Earl" our 1939 Model B also "[i:654c4848f0]moves hard[/i:654c4848f0]".

Usually bump it gradually after start up.

Pushing or pulling does not work very well while running.

You might consider using a lower gear to move the tractor.

Check the position of the overdrive lever.

Take a look at the photos below.

Shift to direct drive and use 1st gear to move the tractor.

Start the tractor and move the speed control lever forward approximately half way.

Engage the clutch very slowly

If the tractor moves without stalling, then try reverse.

If the tractor stalls, then restart the tractor and move the speed control lever slightly forward and try again.

You might consider checking the position of the load needle of the carburetor.

We know the engine runs, so let's do a little troubleshooting. First, does the engine speed up? There should be a dramatic increase in RPM when the throttle lever is pushed forward and that lever should move several inches, measured at the end of the lever.

If that checks out, then we need to see if the rear end is free. With the engine off the PTO disengaged and the transmission in neutral, block the front tires fore and aft and then jack up the rear end of the tractor so that both rear tires are just free of the floor or ground. Can you then spin the tires by hand? If not, the brakes may be frozen in the stop position. Try pushing and pulling on the brake pedals to see if they free up.

If this doesn't do the trick, at least it will get us pointed in the right direction.

I'm pretty sure Mike may be right when he
says it needs to be above idle the more I
think about it after I got it started I
never gave it more throttle before I tried
engaging the clutch the tractors at my
grandma's and I haven't gotten a chance to
go back and try. Tge teactor does move
forward a little but before it dies tires
shouldn't be locked up I pushed the
tractor in the garage after this happened.
Basically what it boils down to is I have
no idea what I'm doing dad got this
tractor from his dad and only ran it
enough to keep it from licking up never
really taught me anything about it now I
have it and I am learning so I am sure
you'll see alit of dumb questions on here
I appreciate all the help I can get

Ok Mike I need help again I'm sorry. Got the 37 going again I had it in first gear low moved about 50 yards stopped push the clutch forward again and she died. Is it possible I had it throttle up to high now do you have to play with it to find a happy medium.

At idle the engine may not generate enough power to move the tractor. That should not be an issue with the engine running at full throttle.
