Tractor Situation

Dare I say it? Should I utter the topic out loud in public, or will it bring bad luck if I bring the subject up?

Dunno, but it looks as tho the old gal is finally cured. Have used 'er to feed cattle three days in a row now and it hasn't missed a single beat and no more black smoke. Bonus is that the fuel gauge is still on full. :>)

My friend Pete does this. He watches me beat my head against the wall, get myself all bloody, cry out in pain, get right to the edge of committing hari-kari and then he'll just nonchalantly call and tell me how to fix 'em. Thanks Pete! :>)

Somewhere along the line, the fuel shut off solenoid must have went south and someone tried to "farmer-fix" it by working over the main fuel feed with a drill bit.

So anyway, at the end of the day it took one last set of spark plugs and one brand spankin' new carburetor from IH. Ouch!

But, all is well now; didn't really know a gas tractor could run this good. :>)

Allan, I am glad you got that old gal going. I had a 686 gas years ago, and it ran like a top. Only used it for feeding and grinding corn in the winter. It would start a lot easier than the diesels did in cold weather. Maybe you will let it hang around a while now.

Yeah,

That was the original plan 'cause I don't like wakin' up a diesel in the winter either. Plus, this one has that huge hydraulic pump which makes for very fast loader operation.

She sure drug me thru the woods to finally get here tho. :>)

just bought a 1969 IH 756 gas with the 291 in it. I was wondering what the wire hooked to the carb was and now i know. Its a good running tractor.

And just think, you can sit in that nice warm cab and let the tractor do most of the work. Good deal, huh?

You have to be careful accusing someone of a "farmer fix". There's a few of them on here. I think one of them is doin a "farmer fix" on some old combine or something? LoL. Now take that radiator in and get it fixed right. Dave

I suppose now it's time to have a look at that fuel gauge. Probably just a poor ground or something. Ha!

Gled to hear of your success. Our 560 gasser gave us years of excellent service.
