Tractor supply more

I have been in some real nice TSCs in Tennessee, and they put the one here to shame. I bet all the farm supplies at the local one would fit in a cart. We call it Tuff S@#t Charlies.

I have TSC about 10 miles away. 3-4 years ago a RK opened 3 miles away in the old sears store at the mall. I thought it was crazy we are in an suburban/ urban area. Last fall a Family Home and Farm store opened about 5 miles away. I have not been to any of them much lately but at least it seems RK is always busy. Once RK opened TSC seemed to do more advertising. If any one has been hurt it may be the couple small locally owned feed and farm stores but they are still hanging in there.

They just opened a new TSC in International Falls MN, on the CA border, I hope it can survive, we will use it some. It might depend on the Canadian customers, they keep the local Menards in business. My dad bought stuff at the TSC in South St Paul MN back in the 60's, they have been around a long time.

I could live quite nicely with nothing more than a Runnings and a Menards.

There are a number of Runnings stores in my area. Some are smaller and have a selection tailored to their market. Selection of work clothes, hardware, basic farm stuff etc. There are also some stores in former big box locations that have a much broader selection including sporting goods (firearms and ammo too!)

I have no complaint with the Tractor Supply stores around here. They do have clothes but a lot of other stuff too. There is a Runnings that is like a Wal Mart, has a lot more stuff but that makes it more difficult to find stuff. Both are OK with me.

Any store is going to stock what sells the most. If your TSC doesnt have tractor parts dont blame them blame the customers for not buying and making tractor parts profitable.

I went to Lowes this past weekend to buy cheap non residential approved LP siding. It was on the top shelf and I had to get a forklift to get me 4 sheets down. Manager said it doesnt sell as well as other stuff so he will not make a spot for it. Only reason he has it in stock is the home office does the ordering. If it was up to him he would not stock it.

On the clothes thing, most all the farmers I know in my area wear clothes and TSC sells some pretty good work clothes at a good price.I also wear coats and gloves that TSC sells.

(quoted from post at 07:47:05 01/27/23) How does Runnings compare to Tractor supply? We are getting a Runnings in our area this year.

You hear these guys brag about Rural King, Orschelin's, etc, and how much better they are than Tractor Supply?

Well that's how far above Tractor Supply Runnings is.

Runnings has the same kind of stuff as Tractor Supply, only it has many times the selection. Plus hunting, fishing, and camping gear.

Prices are sometimes on par, sometimes higher, and sometimes lower.

There are three of them within reasonable driving distance for me. Two about 50 miles away and one 70 miles away. Sounds like there may be a fourth coming?

(quoted from post at 05:53:50 01/27/23) Didn't want to hijack the post below...... Seems funny so many folks are down on tractor supply. I enjoy going in any of our local stores. Well stocked, friendly, knowledgeable staff, clean stores. Got 4 that are 25-30 miles away in each direction. And the new one 11 miles away. I applaud them for staying aware of their changing clients and stocking accordingly. Considering I'm probably the only person for 100 miles buying Farmall parts it makes zero sense for them to keep a huge selection of them in stock. Besides, I don't buy many tractor parts there anyway!! However, there are many homeowners who shop there for their mini farms and gardens. Those folks can find anything they need. As far as the complaints it's a clothing store....... Not around here, still just one small corner. I'm gonna say if tractor supply didn't keep up with the demand from it's new customers, it would soon join Sears........

Let me guess. "Tractor Supply sucks because they don't sell tractors!" Typical.

Why not complain that Walmart doesn't sell walls?

I have a tsc about 40 miles each direction from me.They stock what sells best local one has alot more farm supple as a group of Amish live close buy. When I was a kid dad bought all new belts and canvasses for a AC 60 combine as they had them in stock. How times have changed.

Atwoods out west TEX , Okla . ect are pretty much a copy of the Rural King stores east of the Mississippi river. We have a tractor Supply on ever corner here in Tennessee and they do well.

I have a TSC within 18 miles one way and another 25 miles south of me. They have had everything I ever needed, including bee equipment, plus they employ farm kids so they know what they are doing. Now our local bumgaars employeez????????

I'll second this, I really like their Ridgecut clothing line. Workpants are tough without feeling rough, long sleeve thermal t with a zippered cell pocket is great, as is the flannel shirt with the zippered cell pocket. haven't tried the boots and won't be in the market for a while, but will when the time comes based on my experience so far.

I checked the price of brake fluid at the parts store and then I went TSC. It was the same price. Our TSC is pet friendly. I think that they offer certain services on Wednesday and so you will see many cats and dogs in the store. Farm and Fleet sells hardware by the pound and it appears that TSC does as well. They can beat the Hardware store doing it that way.

I have a couple Tractor Supply stores near me and they seem to always be busy. I just don't go there near as much as I used to. The only time I go to Atwoods is when I visit my son. Have to go by Atwoods to get to his house. Often I don't have the time or we are in a car instead of the truck.

Only a couple? I have TEN stores within a 45 minute drive.

When I go on a road trip there's always a Tractor Supply in the destination town or on the way there. I like to stop and see what they have on the clearance racks.

I remember the original Rural King store at Mattoon,IL. Also a Tractor Supply at Effingham,IL. Both carried farm supplies. RK has dropped a lot of stuff from their inventory. More clothes and pet stuff. Have a newer tractor suppy about 30 miles away, that I have only been in once.

"...where you can go into it and pick up a set of pistons or rings or gaskets for a tractor that is 60-70-80 years old?"

Any brick and mortar store that stocked that would have to be run by moronic idiots. Items like that may never sell in any particular store again and it is not free to the retailer to keep things in stock.
