tractor tires

have 21.3/30 tires on tractor, have chance to pickup a pair of 16.9/30 tires at auction. condition is new. will the 16.9 be okay to replace the 21.3, if so what difference will there be. also what are the 16.9 worth?
thanks in advance

would have to measure the rims as not sure what size they are. the tractor is a mf 1085 purchased about two months ago and parked in a barn so far. am owner of ford 640 and a N, know very little about the larger tractor.

Generally, up or down 1 size from what's reccommended for the rim width is OK (unless you're running radials or heavy axle loads). `That is a 3 size drop you're considering... don't do it.

Forgot to add... you'd also probably be disappointed with pulling performance, unless the 21.3's (23.1's?? I've never heard of 21.3's) were oversize to begin with. I have 16.9x30's on my 4600 Ford (52 h.p.) and they are barely enough tire for it. How big is this tractor?

thanks for the reply, i am going to forget about the tires. even if i got them cheap i would have to go get them and they are 300 miles away.
thanks

82 hp., will probably only be used for shredding. may pull an 8 foot offset with it once in awhile. purchased tractor from family member that had no use for it. use my two fords for shredding and purchased the 1085 cause it was family tractor and you never know u might need it for something

Not unless the tractor already has 20" rims which is unlikely given it's currently using 16.9X30's.
Putting 23.1x30 tires on a 14X30" rim IS NOT a good idea.
With the sidewalls puckered in like that. There won't be anymore tread width on the ground than with the 16.9X30.
By chance do you know how much larger in dia a 23.1X30 is vs. a 16.6X30? Better jack them fender up and in. Probably have to roll the hubs out to the end of the axles too.

seems to me the fenders are not an issue, downsizing concerns are that the tires are okay with the rims i have.

the 16.9 are on a 15X30 rim according to the auction information.

as stated in previous post, am not sure of rim width on the rims on the tractor at this time

If you find a set of 23.1x30 I would appreciate if ya let me know. I have a tractor with 21 inch wide rims that someone put 18.4x30 tires on. The 18.4s are worn out and am looking for the right size to put on it. Thanks

Well that's embarrassing, having it a$$ backwards. May have been the reversed 21.3" that did it.
The 16.9X30's will make the rear squat short with a height of only 58" vs. 67.4", that's down 5 inches.
Dia from 197" to 172" which is 87% of what you started out with.
Load rating drops from 6000lbs to 3740lbs.
16.9X30 are for a 15" rim, 14" and 16" ok.

yea probably the typo was a bit confusing. a little confusion is understandable, heck im that way most of the time.

do appreciate the info bout the drop in height. think i will look for same size that i got already.

not in a rush, heck them tires have been on that tractor since 1974 anyway.

thanks
