tractor tires

Hello gentlemen.

The tires on my TEA-20 are utterly worn out. But apprently the original 10x28 tires are not available theese days. So what do you do for tires?
I suppose I shoulg go for 11,2x28. But why not 12,4x28?
If you have pictures of your tire mount I would like to see them.

Klaus, I am not up on the TEA's but the TO's came with 11:00 X 28, over the years and with changes in the tires the equivalent now is 12.4 X 28. If you want to go with 12.4 you may have to get wider rims. Check with your local farm tire suppliers and ask what they suggest. Richard

I would go with the 11.2x28 tires. If you go to the 12.4x28 you will most likely need to go to 11x28 rims. I have a TO-30 that had 11x28 tires originally. They were to changed to 12.4x28 many years ago. They work fine on the 11x28 rims even though the tires are stamped to mount on 12 inch rims only. I don't think they would mount on 10 inch rims.

Ferguson tractor tires were originally 10x28 but the modern 11.2x28 is the same tire.

I would not use a 12.4 x 28 as the tires will not correctly seat in the rims.

Inflate to 12 PSI, no higher.

Avoid getting tires too big UNLESS you really need them. When you get larger tires you alter the gearing of the tractor and you can find that it is too high for some work and as you don't have a large selection of gears unlike the newer tractors you should think carefully before you do anything too drastic. If you need wide tires for your work then the normal practice is to use smaller diameter rims, you can now fit wide tires without altering the gearing and having it going too fast, you need to take particular note of this is you use the tractor for cultivation work, plowing, cultivating etc. making the gearing too high and you can run out of power.....Just think carefully before you go for larger tire sizes and will they be right for you....John

How the numbers describe a tire has been changed over the years. 10 meant the rim width with the tire width a bit wider. 11.2 now means the widest part of the tire to fit a narrower rim.
