Trailer Brakes

I just bought a gooseneck trailer and the guy I bought from said it had air-over-hrdraulic brake system. He said it was pulled by a dump truck. I am only familiar with electric brakes. What can I do with this system to be able to pull the trailer with my 02 Chevy Silverado 2500HD? How much will it cost me? Thanks in advance.

Be carefull if it has air brakes it requires a CDL to pull it or drive it . would change to Elect over Hyd .

Convertring to electric brakes will be around $250 a wheel, plus the brake controller in the pickup. You'll need a complete brake assembly, plus a drum, bearings, races and seals. Should bolt on, check the Dexter web site, they can surely help.

It should have a master cyl mounted on the front of the trailer and instead of having a helper or brake man sit back there they hook up a air cylinder that is powered from the trucks air brake systym. I would not have bought that trailer unless the price was right or you are going to resell it. I would look into changing the axles to ones with electric brakes all ready or sell it or get the right truck to pull it as it is.
