transporting/driving 715

I'm looking at $600 to get our IH 715 trucked to and from a small contract job, or I can drive it. Would take about 2.5 hours each way. Is this unduly hard on the running gear or does it matter?

Driving your combine won't hurt the mechanics of it at all. But the drive will wear into your tires. Roading is the hardest thing on tires, especially if you are running R-2 (rice) tires. No longer than you will drive it it may not wear a whole lot. Just something to consider. Mike

First one I bought in '76, drove it home 140 miles. Couple more were about 90 miles away. Like Mike says- if it has rice tires, that could be an issue because of heat buildup. They flex a lot on pavement, and heat goes into the finals. Neighbor did that on a Massey and same season, the finals went out. Normal tires, no problem. Just check all fluids and lubes.

I have driven a couple of 715 IH's over 50 miles home with no problems.I had an escort with me.One even had rice tires and wanted to gallop some.
