Went out with my Polaris ranger yesterday and picked a few loads of rocks in my corn field. Corn is up so park along edge and have plenty of candidates within 50 feet of Ranger. Found several old rusty nails, a piece of pickup truck spring, chain links and a Plastic bag from Minneapolis Moline, Hot Line Parts. Would guess it dates back to the early 70's. Anybody here remember these? What unusual have you found? Or does anybody pick rocks anymore. I cultipack my soybeans to push rocks down, but still try to pick up the big Ones. Steve.

The bottom field by the lake was next to the original homestead. We would find hand tools, pottery, more rocks, old buttons, old tin containers, and more rocks. One year while picking more rocks we found a snapping turtle. We loaded him up with the older on the Super 55.
The field by the barn ran along the creek. There we would find arrow heads and more rocks.
One year dad opened about 12 acres along the Rail Road track. We found a rock too big to move with the 310 crawler so dad got some dynamite and blasted it. That made more rocks.

Sharpening my ZTR mower blades, put the impact wrench on the first spindle and something caught my eye. It was a 2" long rusty finishing nail barely stuck in the packed grass under the deck!
I've no clue where it came from, just somewhere in my yard. I've always been careful where my mower blows clippings, now I'll double that effort.
As to uncovering things when working the ground; when I was about 8 Dad had be following him plowing and picking up rocks. One day he uncovered an old stone Indian ax head made of what looked like granite. Thing is, there is no granite in S. Indiana. He showed it to a professor from IU, who made the assumption of granite, then tried to keep the stone ax head. That was about 1950.
While the corps of Engineers was grading the ground for what is now Lake Monroe, my BIL and dad frequently drove over and walked the ground arrow tip hunting. We finally filled a pint jar; about 1960 that jar disappeared from dad's basement, but he had a lot of friendly neighbors where he lived at that time.

Picking rock with my Honda 4 wheeler on the 8th anniversary of my Dad's passing and found a $100 dollar bill in the middle of the field...never folded. Looked around for more but only the one. On land I bought from Dad.

When mom passed I took all the fence rows out that dad had and same on my grandparents place. I left them alone as mom like the dogwood blooming in spring. Anyway found old horse shoes a lot of rocks that was thrown there when they plowed, I have a old gravel road about half mile long goes back to the back farm, was walking my beagle and in the side of the dirt on the woods side found 3 foot of black smith chain that had the large rings for horse rigging. Dug up a blacksmith’s made ax head removing some trees with backhoe.

One year when mowing a field I lost a 1/2 inch drive Craftsman ratchet. Looked for it but couldn't find it. Tore up the field about 3 years later and found the ratchet. After I cleaned up the head it worked better than the one I replaced it with. I have also found horse shoes and some tire chains I drug behind my harrow.

I found a hitch pin this year. I have found chains that I lost before as well. Never found anything very interesting tho

My husband has plowed up several old, rusty tools... he uses them.

He added to the plowed-under tools by losing a hammer a few years ago, while plowing with our rusty Fatmall Regular.

I have found all kinds of tools. On the edge of our field, I found a coil of tow cable, with a tree growing threw it, Thankfully the tree hadn't grown around it so much that I could not get it out without killing it.

it was about a 100 feet of 3/4 cable. Tree is about 24-26 inches around. No telling how long it has been there.

If you were close I'd ask if I could bring my rusty Farmall Regular and plow with it. Been wanting to, but have yet to find a location. Maybe at shows this year

Years ago , I was going out to mow a couple acres to prepare to plant food plots
I was sitting on my 8N thinking about where to start to mow and I saw down in the field a shiny object
sticking up in the grass so I drove down to see what it was , and when I got there I was much surprised to see
a door off an Air Plane.
I remember thinking what do I do now
so I went back home and called 911 the lady I talked to said you found what
any way long story short a few days later I got a call from the FAA and they told me that they were notified that
a plane that was delivering mail for the USPS had lost a door in Pennsylvania.
and someone would be calling me to pick it up .

I guess you never know what you will find in your field.

What part of PA was that?

All the usual lost pieces, tools, and fence bits.

There were 2 living quarters and a ‘major road’ which was a dirt path connecting 2 forts that were on my farm in the mid 1800s. So a few bits of pottery, probable Indian artifacts, and such.

As for unusual:

Half of an oxen shoe.

A dollar bill.

2 pages from a bondage magazine.

A love letter from one of my former classmates to another.

That could have hit you in the head and dented it.
