I have a 1943 FBH. It starts right up and runs about a minute and then shuts off. Then it will not start again for a few days. Then it does the same thing again. Plugs are dry so not flooded.

Is there a way to bleed the gas line? Does it sound like a fuel pump?

When it runs, it sounds great.

Sounds like you may need to clean your carb and fuel tank. Likely junk is clogging up the gas flow somewhere. There is no fuel pump on them. The next time it quits take the gas line loose at the carb and see if you get gas from it. If not start cleaning from there up. If so your carb is full of crap or needs a new kit put in it.

sounds like you have a fuel system problem, but first, when it conks out and wont restart, pull a spark plug wire and see if you get spark, if so its probably fuel. sounds like you have a farmall h. disconnect fuel line where it goes in the carburetor an turn the fuel valve on at the tank, run the fuel into a can, and let it run for 20 seconds or so to see if you have good fuel flow. could be crud in the fuel tank, sediment bowl under tank is plugged, or there is a screen where the fuel line goes in the carburetor.

Glennster, I am a one finger typer. Maybe I started a little quicker. Don't matter, room for all responses looks to me like. I've been bouncing around here argueing about tricycle front ends and the south. All in good fun just based on my experiences.

Sounds like fuel. All you have is a tank, glass bowel, line and carb.

Starting with the easiest things first like the little girl who said to the truck driver stuck under the bridge - why dont you let the air out of your tires which reduced the height of the truck and got him unstuck

Do you have enough gas and is the valve under the tank all the way open.

Ok assuming that wasn't your problem

Disconnect the fuel line from the carb and let it run into a can. Good Flow Yes/No ???

If YES, check the carb adjustments richen up the fuel mixture but If its the carb and no one touched the stetings it's rebuild time - or you could just clean it up yourself as it's probably some crud that needs to be blown out.

If NO, remove the gas cap as sometimes the fuel cap's vent gets clogged and will stop the flow. If no flow after the cap is off then remove the glass sediment bowel under the gas tank and clean it our. With an air hose blow out the gas line then reinstall the bowel and blow out the line again. Becareful - not too much pressure.

Do you have flow? if yes reconnect the fuel line to the carb and start r up.

In not remove the fuel line and bowel assy from the tank their is a plug of crud somewhere that needs to be removed.

Remove the carb and clean it and put in a kit. Clean the fuel filter and fuel line. Reinstall the carb and make sure the gasket between the carb and manifold is good. Pour some gasoline in each cylinder and try starting it. Make sure the carb is adjusted properly. Make sure the carb is getting good air flow from the air cleaner. Your tractor should not be equipped with a fuel pump.
