A hot and uncomfortable ride as the boiler is in the cab and the tyres offer little smoothing of the road surface of the day. My first employer used to drive one of these, early in the morning, about 1 am, down to London from Swaffham, a distance of 100 miles, loaded with fresh produce for the Smithfield market. They would do around 20 mph and he went down and back in the same day.
