Turkey Hunting

I have been cutting and splitting wood every other evening in a woods that is by the State Park in Winamac Indiana. I see at least 40 turkey every evening walking within 30 yards of the log splitter. It doesnt bother them at all. I was think about getting a Licence when season comes in and Kill one of the big ones. Have any of you guys ever ate one of them or is it just better to go to the store and buy one. We kill at least 6 deer a year and the wife says that wild turkeys arnt any good to eat. Just asking for your opinion.

I have had wild turkey and its not that bad but the store bought to me is a lot better, but then again I can eat deer cube steak vs beef cube steak and can eat a lot more of the beef. My wife says im weird but oh well!!

Take the breast, cube them up, and marinade them in Italian dressing or your favorite marinade for several hours (I prefer 8-12 hours). Then wrap them in thick cut bacon and place them on the grill at 300-350. I have cooked wild turkey for plenty of people at work that have never had wild game before, and they all loved it. Now you have me wanting to go out and kill one for dinner. Good luck and hope this helps.

I would eat the wild one over a store bought any day! Cook some 3 or 4 ways and see what you like the best. But, We all know on the 8th day God sayed Killem' and Grillem' haha.

And RickyW we all know your a little weird anyway lol!

hey dave, ya indiana wild turkey is very good but the best way is to just peel back the feathers and just cut the breast out. The legs of the turkey isn't that good. If you want to do somethin with them you can make turkey salad out of them or us them for coyote bait. Back to the breast of the turkey is to marinate it and put in a cooking bag. Very good!! Also is there any antique pulls down in winamac this year?

You must be from around Starke County if you know about turkey hunting. If I rember right your family was just raised down the road from where my parents live. There are no pulls at Winamac this year if you want to ride along and go to some good pulls I will be at a couple of the next Michigan and Ohio NATPA pulls. Keep working on that farmall of yours it ran good last time I seen it pull. Good luck and have fun.

like everybody else said the best thing is to just breast the bird out and maybe the legs but the legs have lot of tuff muscle, turkeys can run at 25 mph and fly at 50 mph for short distance turkeys are alot more fun to hunt in the spring instead of the fall, in the spring they are alot more vocal and not all bunched up in in a flock like in the fall , once you kill your first bird in the spring you will be hooked just like tractor pulling

ya that Super H that we have, in shop class I built side weight brackets to hang suitcase weights off it. Haven't had a chance to try it out on a track yet, was to bussy when there was pulls at hamlet this year to get a tractor up there. Most of the time know I'm to bussy with work and school.

Make sure that you look at the rules with that club they dont allow any weights to be in front of the back of the front tire. A stupid rule but that is what they want. If you need to use some bolt on front wheel weights I have a couple you can use. Good luck and have fun pulling.
