U.S. Made Come-A-Long!

Was happy to find a American made come-a-long yesterday at the South Lyon, MI Lumber store. It was about $10 more then the made in China one that another local hardware store had. And also, the U.S. made one was way heavier duty and of much better quality. I was not sure if I could find a U.S. made one but was darn sure I was not gonna go to TSC and buy another one of those made in China pieces of crap. After our brief discussion down below yesterday regarding unions and CNH Global I was impressed that a tool like this is still available made in U.S. Oh, and the Made in China come-a-long was in a red, white and blue box with a drawing of a Amercian Bald Eagle on it, thought that was deceptive.

I was in tractor supply to buy a 2 wheeled hand truck. They had about 15 in stock. All but one were made in china , and else where. One was made in USA. The made in USA one was much better built than all the rest of the junk. Yes , it cost me about $25.00 more , but well worth it. About a month later , I walked into tractor supply again. Still had about 15 2 wheeled hand trucks in stock. The difference is , ALL were just like the one I bought. MADE IN USA. All the junk ones were gone.

Much American made stuff is still available,you just have to look around. I bought a new ratchet type chain binder a few months ago from Fastenal, USA made was about $65 and the china made was about $30. I bought the Made in the USA one.

This comment thread fully illustrates the result of a 40+ year effort by multinationalists to undercut the economy of the United States, the crippling and removal of our manufactuing base and the simultanious devaluation of our currency. Good on those of you who do stick with the made in the USA made necessities. Many others have been reduced to not being able to afford to do that for so long now that the younger folks among us have lost any appreciation for what that means. It is not a hopelessly lost situation, but will take a long time to be rectified. I myself routinely search for made in the USA and buy the same when it can be had. Sadly, in many categories, it is just plain not available anymore. This is going absolutely according to plan. "Made-in-the-USA" buyers, keep your chin up...you are doing us all proud.

I commend you for paying that little extra for an American product. Like the small farmer you are one of a few. Why dont people realize that by continuing to buy the cheaper foriegn made supplies they are NOT helping the US and fellow country men. I have always said it, will always say it. Buy American MADE and American grown, and shop your local Mom and Pop stores, if you have one.

Any of you using a Dell computer. How much more American can you get (Texas to boot)?? Open them up and see where all the parts are made. I was by a Mercedes dealer awhile ago (I am in Germany), and there was a truckload of the SUV type model that had "manufactured in the USA" shipping documents in the windows. Your big a$$ ford pickups with a mazda transmission. Are Craftsmen tools still made in the USA? Probably not. I have to order a lot of my stuff online. It'd be nice to have a place that only sold US made stuff or, at least had a section for you to shop in. Buy a brand now "cause Dad always had them, and they were good" may just help some poor old farmer plant another acre of rice rather than keep Bubba and Marcel in a job. I'll fess up, I just got one of the Harbor Freight garden carts delivered because I couldn't find anything close to it here for less than $450 (I paid $69 with shipping). I didn't expect much, so won't be disappointed but it seems pretty tough.

I believe Craftsman tools are still made in the US. As for computers, well, lets put it this way...my computer was hand built in the US, using domestic components, to my specifications...but I paid through the nose for that quality and workmanship.

I, too, try my best to find products made either in the US or Canada. At times, when money is tighter, or I don't feel like driving another hour to another store to find an American product, I'll buy the import stuff...but....I try my best to avoid it. There are products that I need/want that are no longer made in the US/Canada, though, which is a shame.

The old family car was built in Mexico, with many parts having "Made in Taiwan" stickers on them. My current car was built in Ontario, and i have yet to find a sticker that says any components were built outside North America.

I actually bought a USA made come-a-long in TSC last year. It's stamped Ohio Hoist and Puller Co. on it , a real actual company in Ohio.

It had the American flag decal on it which immediately caught my eye. Just had to buy it then.

Be aware though that often products with Made in the USA sticker may have foreign made components or they are foreign owned companies based here.

Ex: GE sold off their huge plastics unit last year to the Saudis.

This whole manufacturing thing gets muddier and fuzzier all the time.

Same with human ethnicity they predict, we'll all be one color some day. I try not to worry too much anymore. Can't stop it.

Good for you! I always try to buy US if it is equal or better quality. I also let the retailer know why or why I am not buying their product in situations like these.

Best come a long is a Red devil. Cast iron, pulls 10 times what they are rated for, made in the US of A, cost about 200 bucks, but worth every penny. Will never wear out. I have 2 of them, and can move damn near anything with them. They are a tad on the heavy side, but I like good stout stuff.

I just imported a woodsplitter to Canada from U.S.A. It cost me an arm and a leg(between the two countries I got dinged 20% tax) but it is the best in the world and that's what I wanted.I can split a cord an hour of fine split by myself.I am very happy with it.It is Timberwolf TW6 with all options - made in Vermont!

Only the manual transmissions are made by Mazda for both the Ranger and F-150. The new F-150 will not have a manual available as of 2009, and it is hard to find a manual Ranger anymore, emissions is killing them off. Even then Ford owns 30% of Mazda, so it is kinda hard to say they are all forgein. The Mazda B-series pickups from 1994+ are Rangers with a different front clip, better warentee and a cheaper price tag, aside from that they are identical.

Craftsman tools are still made in the US, they usually have that stated in a fairly obvious place on the tool and packaging.

Talk about Chinese junk...... Just for giggles,I bought an 8" bench grinder off Ebay..I had no real expectations for it's longevity.. I unwrapped it , attached the guards and bolted it to my work bench..I plugged it in and flicked the switch..The motor started slowly and steadily built up speed..Took only 35 seconds for it to go to top speed..As it clammered for RPM's, stuff started vibrating off the work bench..I've never seen such a P.O.S. in my life..Do the Chinese really use this stuff?? or is the" Cream of the crop" saved for the United States...If they use this stuff , it's no wonder they're about 40 years behind us..As I'm typing this , I'm hoping they get back to me for my Return Goods Authorization.. I ordered a Dewalt 8" grinder today....

I received a Chinese made come a long as a present a few years ago. The guy bought the largest one in the store so that I would have plenty of capacity. After the second time that I used it, I had to rebuild all of the bushings and stress points. It was worthless the way it was built.

I own a couple of small businesses along with my Continental Airlines employment.

One of those companies uses a Patio Umbrella that I have to buy! Now get this. It is a "Made in the USA" product but the frame is made in China and the canopy is USA fabric sewn in the USA so they can claim "Made in the USA" I really upsets me that they can do that but I cant find a single manufacture that makes the structure of the umbrella in the USA.

I can legally claim that my product is made in the USA but in my eyes it truly isn't!

My other business I make stirrups for saddles. Every bit of that is MADE in the USA because I do have complete control of the whole process!

Over 25 years ago I worked in a chrysler plant that made dodge trucks and vans. Our cloth work gloves had tags sewn in them that said made in china. Called my shop stewart about haveing to use gloves made in china in a UNION shop and his response was if i didnt like them not to wear them. Its no wonder things are so screwd up with union leader ship like that. I am still a working union member but I dont work for the auto ind. any more. Sam

once i got a set of craftsman hand wrenches as a b-day present that were made in japan. they looked pretty much like any other craftsman i had ever seen , you know craftsman on one side where made on the other was really not expecting to see that.so look them over good as i found out sears does not honor the guarentee on the japan made ones
