i hear all diesel fuel is going to be ulsd in the near future anyone else heard this is it true.

Federaal law, EPA trying to clean air(and job security). Some places requiring Bio-diesel also. On the opposit track I know a guy who runs recycled engine oil mostly in his diesels. RN

From what I've been told by the fuel supplier, All fuel is ulsd. The only difference is that the fuel in your farm tank has dye in it so they can tell if you are running non taxed (farm fuel) in you road vehicles.

Not all diesel will be ULSD but all road use diesel will be.

A few years ago the EPA mandated that X% of all diesel used in road vehicles and sold after mid 2007 would be ULSD. They gave them to about 2010 to convert over 100%. After that date all diesel sold for road use must be ULSD.

The problem with this set up is that all 2007 diesel engines must use ULSD. Now if you own a gas station you have a choice. Stock both kinds (not likely because tanks are expensive) Sell the old diesel and turn away all customers with 2007 vehicles; or stock only ULSD. Most have chosen the last one so it is hard to find the older diesel now.

High sulfur diesel (must be dyed red and for off road use only) will be phased out in 2010 and the regular low sulfur diesel that was used as road diesel last year will become the new off road diesel.

Now since tanks are not cheep; and fuel refineries are even more expensive most have just resorted to carrying only ULSD and putting dye in the no tax fuel and selling clear for road use.
You can never be sure of what grade diesel you will get unless you get it straight from the refinery. This is because fuel can be down graded and sold as anything lower than what it really is.
Such as Jet-A fuel can be sold as K-1 or any form of off road diesel because it is the highest grade of high sulfur; but only Jet-A can be sold as Jet-A fuel.
#2 ULSD can be sold as any form of #2 diesel. It is the highest grade of #2 diesel. But it can not be sold as #1 diesel; K-1; or Jet-A.

They have 3 kinds of diesel that the common guy may have access to in #2 grade.
ULSD- Ultra Low Sulpur Diesel (5 ppm sulpur)
LSD- Low Sulpur Diesel (500 ppm sulpur)
HSD- High Sulpur Diesel (5000 ppm sulpur)

I've heard it and like the tohers have said, 2010 is the cutoff. Around here, I'm pretty sure all of our fuel is ULSD since it came out. I know for sure that even before the ULSD our farm fuel was NOT high sulfer. Woulda been able to smell that, and it just smells like deisel outta any other pump.

Our fuel supplier is a little on the smaller side so I highly doubt they would keep more tanks than they really had to on their site.

Never had a problem with their fuel either. Our 1855 plugged it's filter (single clamp on style)about 1 1/2 years after we bought it and I changed the filter then, but since then it's been fine. We had the same filters on our 285 for probably 10+ years till then and I changed them just to be safe even though it still ran more than fine.

Added a water block filter onto the main tank as well but haven't had it slow up yet.

ULSD was introduced in october 2006 and it is here to stay. Becouse it is hydrogenated it acts as a cleaner and all the scale in the system gets loosened and winds up in your filters.
I think that problem has been addressed ,and until your system gets cleaned out you willhave to chenge your filters.
