The moles moved in late this afternoon just found them now while cutting the front lawn. Could some one explain indetail the bubble gum trick when I do it they just cover it up with more dirt. Thanks in advance. P.S. I should of paid closer attention when my dad did it he could trap them real good all I remember is digging a big hole and then putting in the wooden gopher trap and did good.

Me too. I have not seen a mole hill in eight years but all of a sudden, this year they are EVERYWHERE! The wife's cats have gotten a couple, but there must be at least 20 of the varmints chewing up our yard.

I wonder if some of those left over fireworks.....

I don't know, but here is a whole page of folks discussing it.

Remember that moles are looking for bugs, in particular, grubs. Treat your lawn for grub worms and that will help a lot.
Gophers, on the other hand, are vegetarians and they like to eat plant roots. We have a few mole tunnels popping up every now and then. Gophers make a mess when they pop up with a mound in my lawn. When I see a fresh one, I stick my hand down in the fresh hill and open up the tunnel they just filled. Then I wait. In about five minutes they will reappear and begin to fill the tunnel again. I'm nearby waiting with a double barrel 16 guage shotgun. That makes a real mess of the gopher. I just cram it back down in its hole and bury it.

I'm just proud to know that someone still has a 16 ga. shotgun.

My cousin got my grandaddy's 16 ga Stevens when he died in 1967, but that was after I had got my first rabbit with it (at 10 years old).

I now have a 410 Stevens that is the exact same gun except for the gauge.

It will remove the head from a rattle snake quickly at 2:30 AM, that has taken over the chocolate lab's house.
