unusual snow this year

I just can't get over the snow this year / temperature.

I always considered that anyone in our area moving snow without chains, was wasting their time unless they had FWA. It was a joke to even try anyway.

Well this year I got behind / lazy and did not get the tractor chains on one of my snow moving tractors that I use in town here.

So far I just can't get over the fact that I hardly spun a wheel blowing, and scooping the snow. All tires are perfect, with the tiny rubber tear drops still on the tires. It seems to bite real good, and I'm thinking about not even taking the fifteen munites time to put the chains on. The reason is so I can scoot across town without tearing up or putting wear on the tire chains.

I have the chains on my other snow moving tractor, but the one at the house here is a WD AC with a blower on the rear, and a snow bucket on the loader. No fluid or weights on the rear either.

This year the snow doesn't seem to need alot of effort to blow it. I have been playing in the snow for sixty years, and just never seemed like the snow was so user friendly as this year.

I grew up plowing my parent's driveway with a MF135 with a 7' blade on the front. The rears were loaded, but no chains. Hardly ever spun, but the driveways were flat as a pancake.
Now, my driveway is 650' long, curvy, and on a hill. I snowblow it with a MF165. The rears are loaded and I have chains on them. There are days where I can only snowblow going downhill. Even with the diff lock, she just can't push the blower up the hill. Going downhill, however, it's unstoppable.

That is because it is colder this time. Cold snow is not as slippery.

Agreed. When we lived up in MN, the kids could almost never make a decent snowman or have a good snowball fight. The snow we had there usually just wouldn't stick together all that well. Atmosphere too cold when most of it fell. Now here in southern MO we hardly ever get enough snow to make a snowman.

"User friendly"??? Never heard such a term used with snow. What kind of tabakky are you smokin in that pipe? I made snow removal more comfortable this year by putting a plow on my F-250, rather than sitting out in the open on my John Deere 520 with loader and rear blade. But I wouldn.t say the snow was user friendly. Maybe if there were 20 or so inches less.

The dang stuff blows real easy -- not wet. I even chewed into some old snow banks that got a melt down on them a while back that should have been a ice chunk. It actualy went without much problems tearing it up.

Sorry, I don't push snow, I blow snow, otherwise the next snow makes more deposites than otherwise when I leave a windrow.

Kinda like the mother in law coming for a quote / unquote ---short stay. Might as well face up to it and make the best of it, and sure hope all the above (snow & mother in law) stay outside.

Your thinking of the smoking? Well I often wonder if that perhaps is a better way of handeling lifes issues. Myself-no smoke (any kind) no drinks, and I woun't chew no nasty crap either. How ever I seem to attract some unwanted second hand smoke real often.

And it's kinda miserable here in MN this year - we got a rain ans snow at the same time, froze down as a 15 inch thick crusty mess of snow. Very hard to drive through to get round bales, cattle can't walk through it, wears a person/critter out.

The cold weather is making the snow fluffier for you, and cold snow/ice is not as slippery as when it is near the freezing mark.

Roads are terrible ice covered here, but when it's minus 20 it's not all that slippery....
