So finished the 12v system with gutted front mount and delco 10si. Got the hood on and all the bolts tightened. Fires up and runs great. Starts right up everyday for the last week. Tightened up elbow from gasline to carb, it was leaking. Took it for about a two mie ride with my two year old daughter to get gas. Then went for a six mile ride to pick up a mower from my grandpa, got a ford flail mower for 100 dollars. Everything went good and fast with the sherman stepup until on the way home about two blocks away from my house blew one of the rear tires. Oh sh*t. It was tubed and the tire was pretty shot gonna have to watch craigslist or check the local dealer for some used ones, can't afford much right now.
Thanks to everyone for the help expecially hobo for the step by step coil conversion, dell and soundguy for electronics, dunk, bruce, and anyone else I may have forgotten. Thanks,

I think I have around 100 dollars into it, doing it myself and buying a couple of brackets and brand new alternator.

No need to be a smart*ss. My tractor had shot wiring and the guy before me ran a twelve volt battery on the six volt system, who knows what he fudged up. Oh yeah my money, my choices. Glad you read the post but next time if your gonna be like that keep your opinion to yourself. I was thanking the people that helped me with logical explanations, and I didn't see your name up there.

(quoted from post at 19:33:10 11/17/09) Good tires come first on my tractor. Its running fine on SIX volts.

Mine is running fine on a 6V, Chevy alternator, and bad tires.

Well.....

Bad rear tires, the front tires are new.

I figger I will get all of the good out of them before I jump off the deep end.

They still do what I need done...

I have to run on the hiway about a quarter mile to get to a woodlot.Hope you know the many farm tractors get rear ended by drivers who dont understand that most tractors can run at 15 mph at best. Many stopped vehicles are rear ended on the interstate here.My JD H has a top speed of 8 mph. When they tarred the hiway here I was almost thrown off my Ford when I turned off the 3 inch step onto another road at an angle.

You are putting you 2 year old at risk riding on a tractor.Rotten tires make it worse.Read the posts on the tractor forum.

I wasn't driving on main roads and I live in a farming community. The previous owner said the tires were filled with foam, apparently this one wasn't.
