US MF 65 diesel engine

Hi,

As far as I have understood, the US version of the MF 65 never came with the Perkins 4-192 diesel engine, but came with the Perkins 203 engine from the beginning of the production.
Was this a indirect injected diesel, or was it a direct injected diesel ? An A4-203 or a AD4-203 engine ?

The difference can easily be seen on the injectors, the indirect ones are mounted vertically in the head, and the direct ones are mounted at some angle.

Hi Bill,
As far as I am aware the 4-192 is indirect but the AD4.203 is direct.
A=Made by Perkins to MF specification
D=Direct injection
4=Number of cylinders
203=No of cubic inches capacity

The 203 engine is virtually the same as the AD3.152 fitted to the 135 etc but with the fourth cylinder.
I think the 203 engine was fitted to the 65 in 1959.

Thank you for the information.

But, as you saw initially, this was about the US version, and as the two others stated the first MF 65 came with the indirect injected 203 engine. The 203 engine was made in both versions, as the 152 was, but in the UK the MF 65 never came with the 203 engine in the indirect version, but it did in the US.

In the UK, the 203 engine came with the Mark II, and it was around mid 1960. I have an early summer 1960 MF 65 (UK built) serial number 521 thousand and something and it is a Mark I with the 192 engine. A fellow in England I know have a tractor maybe 1000 tractors later or so, it is a Mark II and has the 203 engine.

I thought the UK MF 65 also came with the 203 engine in the indirect version, but I was wrong about that. But, I wondered where I had that idea from, and it seems it comes from www.external_link, and that is for the US 65 with the 203 engine, a A4-203 engine.
It is easy to get mixed up in the head sometimes.

So, now I wonder if the A4-203 and the AD4-203 was produced at the same time. I mean, to me it now looks like the A4-203 were produced until 1962 for the US market, while the AD4-203 came in 1960 for the UK market.

Would be interesting to hear if anyone can shed any light to this.
