USA made Spark plugs

I bought a set of AL 437 spark plugs today and I noticed on the package that they are made in China. Is there an American or other nationality brand of plug that can be used in the 8N?

I read too much and I know too much about the malevolence of China towards our country militarily, economically, and politically to allow my conscience to buy Chinese when I can avoid it. Also, as I have stated before, I think that most Chinese products are cheap, often defective, and of a lesser quality.

Also, it looks as if we might get some rain around my part of Texas in the form of a hurricane. We need it, and I will take the wind to get it. The feeling around here has a tinge of excitement and foreboding. I live 120 miles inland so the wind should subside some by the time it gets here. Only 40-70 mph. If the storm strengthens substantially before landfall that could be a different story. FYI, this thing is taking the same track as the 1900 Hurricane that wrecked out Galveston. It is not as strong as that storm--yet.

I can't tell yuo where any of them are made.. however.. 437's seem to work better than champions.. etc..

As I write this, the first outer band of Ike just hit us, north of New Orleans. It turned from a bright sunny day to rain in 5 minutes.

Here's my best suggestion for you, based on recent experience from Gustav and other storms: If there is any possibility AT ALL that you could flood, or that flooding will cut you off from access to the world around you, GET OUT NOW. Both these hurricanes are bigger rain events than wind events - and the wind is fierce.

Make sure your generator is working properly, and your fuel supply is adequate for at least a week, including what you can syphon from your truck. Two weeks is better. The power grid will go out, and stay out for a loooooong time.

No generator? GET OUT. And before you go, empty the fridge, or you'll have to buy a new one when you come back. Freezer too.

Take time to decide what posessions you would miss the most. Usually this includes medicines, pictures, and legal papers. Pack them in a trunk or big box and put them in your car, and then go back and take 4 pictures in each room of your house - one in each direction. Take the camera with you.

Head east. Let me know if you need a bed. Best of luck!

G6,

My parents and sisters live in Nederland (South of Beaumont). They are in the process of evacuating now! Thay have a mandatory evacuation order there. I hope there will not be a lot of damage!

Good luck,
Danny

Yeah G6, I'd say you're gonna get some rain - water vapor satellite shot shows Ike covering almost the entire Gulf from Cuba to Galveston - he's a big broad cane - shouldn't be much more than a 2/3 windspeed cane, but will affect a broad area with rain.

Check the plug package,Champions are made in Mexico and have problems breaking off in cylinder heads.I would look for old stock US made Autolites.

I just checked the tune-up kit I bought fromCNH dealer last week. Autolite plugs are stamped "made in usa", the label on the package is printed "made in usa" but the plastic envelope with the points is stamped "made in taiwan".
Go figure....

Oh, and the new coil, NAPA IC14, not the lower priced IC14SB, is made in mexico.

NDG;
Take this for what it is worth, to ya.!!!!! A REAL shocker!!!!!! This blurp, is from the guy that steered ya to the NAPA sold Echlin V/R, that you and I both are so happy with!!!!!!
I just bought another one of those, for my FIL's 8N, and would you believe that inside the box, was an instellation sheet, with three dif. languages, printed out, for the instructions.
SEE where this is leading????? God only knows where they are makin' these V/Rs NOW. Still says, Made in USA on the box!!!!!!!

My take now.....and you already know how I feel about this, Is , the day of any USA MADE product, is on it's way to the perverbial, "OUTSORCE MANUFACTURE", and there is nothing to do about it!!!!
SO, with that in mind......If I order something that I want/need, from now till the time I get something that will not work the way it is supposed to, I'm turning a blind eye to where it is MADE!!!!!! JMO
If it don't work....send it back and make the seller send ya one, that does!!!
If we keep doing that.....Maybe the quality control will get better in the SALES world, Here in the USA!!!!!!!

JMHO
Keep on, keepin' on!!!!!
Have an "N" day :)

I agree. It is getting harder and harder to find Made in USA on tools or parts of all stripes. As for the coil, I checked on that and sure enough it was made in Mexico. I wish it still said USA on it, but I will take Mexico over China almost every day of the week.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not sticking up for stuff made in China but I do believe they build it to spec. Specs are lowered to make cheaper/sell cheaper.
The big reasons for moving out of the country are labor laws and taxes.

You are dead nuts on! Follow the money.....it is ALWAYS the bottom line.
Tax enough, labor law enough, health care enough, organize enough, and the cost to manufacture will be cheaper somewhere else. If you want the government to GIVE cradle to grave care, somebody has to pay for it. Non-workers are not among that 'somebody'. Now, for the next question, what happens when the recipients out number those being taxed and you have driven all the big tax payers (businesses) out of the country to less overbearing taxing countries? Now, whatch gonna do???

Yeah, I think YOU should work for 80-cent an hour, no benefits, no weekends, no coffee breaks, no healthcare, no family leave, NOTHING. Just work work work, and then your employer send your job overseas anyway, bank his money in an offshore bank, and get a big tax break as well. Someday YOU will illegally immigrate to Mexico so YOU can have a job!

Get a grip! Had enough? Vote anything but repugnican!
