Used or Remanufactured engine?

We have come across a well maintained John Deere 7720 combine with a bad motor. What are your thoughts on replacing the engine with a "good" used one, a rebuilt, or a remanufactured one?

If you have the ability and time, you can save money by rebuilding the engine in it. I heard a couple of horror stories with salvaged engines quickly going belly-up so unless you are certain of the history I wouldn't chance it. Personally I would go for a quality remanufactured engine, to save my labor and time.
