utu @ 5000 LBS? can it be done?

start with an early u they are lighter. weld on hubs light tires and a lot of elbow grease. Bob Trowbridges UB pulled in 4500 regularly with 16.9 x38 wheels and virtually no aluminum on the tractor and carried 150 # on the front with a 250 # driver. It once pulled 4000 with 13.6 x 38 tires and a 150 # driver

My 49 UTU weighed around 5600. Had 14.9 x 38 with cast rims. Had I kept it, I was intending to pull PTO and the belt pully assembly hoping I could run 5700. I sold it before I got a chance to do it

I have a 1950 UTS with the wide front cast iron axle which is probably heavier. I have 9 bolt 16x34 steel wheels on the rear and 15x3 steel wheels on the front. It's gas and weighs under 4900 lbs with a 210 lb driver.

We have a UB that runs 5000 lbs w/ a 220 lb driver and about 75 lbs on the front. Only aluminum is front wheels. We are running 18.4-38's and 800 blocks.
We used to have a UTS that would go 4500 w/ 245 lb driver. No weights on front. Had custom front axle, aluminum rad. and front wheels w/ the 403 motor.
They can be light, just have to get creative.

I have a '49 U with 800 blocks that carries 300 pounds in the front in the 4500 lbs. class with aluminum rear wheels and 175 lbs. driver.
