V Case

I just bought a little Case tractor that looks different than most Cases that I see. I am guessing by the serial number that it is a model V. the ser. is as follows:
V4631503
Can anyone tell me what it may be worth and if 800.00 is to much? I also want to know anything special about this model?
Can anyone tell me how to research the serial number like getting a buid card from Case? I was told you can get those? Thank you.

It will be a '42, made during WWII. (For 7 digit #'s, subtract 4 from the first 2 #'s) Does it have a military tag? A lot of model V's went into the service of our country as army air corps tow tractors. We have a couple of VC's. I worked for a city parks department that had a V with a military nomenclature plate on it. The V series have continental flat-head engines in them. They look somewhat like a VA series, but don't share any parts with the VA series that I have found. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Someone painted over the serial tag, but there is another metal plate that was painted over as well just by the serial plate? Maybe a military tag. The guy I bought it from, brought it up out of Vici, Okla aprs. 10 year ago and he just went in rest home so his wife sold to me. I hope it is worth 800.00

Build cards for Rock Island built tractors are nonexistent. However, the serial number indicates that it is a 1942 model. I don't think $800.00 is too bad a price.
Where in Kansas are you? I'm originally from Decatur County.
Get a copy of "Full Steam Ahead" by Dave Erb and ELdon Brumbaugh; it has a pretty good section on the V series.

I agree $800 is not a bad price for a "V."
Only 84 were built in 1942 according to the "Illustrated CASE Buyer's Guide" by Peter Letourneau, published by Motorbook International at Osceola, WI.

I have a "V" that I use often. It is mainly used to pull my dump trailer hauling firewood, rocks and brush. It is so handy in the woods because it is so narrow and easy to get around the trees. The trailer is narrow too, so makes a good combination together. This tractor will start on the second pull of the crank at zero degrees with half choke. Has a 12 volt generator with a hydraulic pump clamped to it to give live hydraulics.Both driving on the same belt. Starter drive is usually frozen on cold mornings, so don't even bother with it till it gets warmed up.
I also have 2 "VC'S". One a running tractor and the other in the process of restoration. I have bored the restoration tractor out to 165 Cu. In. Anxious to see how this engine runs.
Weak points of the tractor is the Clark transmission and PTO. Be careful and positive when you shift gears and don't shift on the go.... Gene

Yes, the V that I worked with had its military ID tag on the dash, not far from serial # tag. I'll bet when you get the paint off, it'll be a brass tag, maybe 2" X 3" or so with lots of military logo on it. (Another $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I Paid $600.00 for my 1940 case v and engine was stuck brakes were froze up. I Rebuilt the engine. freed up the brakes amd painted it myself. now i take it to tractor shows all over wisconsin. I really enjoy this little tractor was a fun project.
