V.O.T: inlaws visiting

My inlaws are coming to visit today, for a few days. So my wife has asked me to clean the fiberglass tub/shower enclosure. I've got all kinds of cleaners and nothing seems to be doing the job. I've got goof off, 409, kaboom and I've tried them all. My wife looked in and suggested I try some kind of grease! Now, I had never heard of that but, at this point I'm willin' to try anything. Out in the garage I've got 4 or 5 different kinds of grease but, for the life of me I can't find this can of elbow grease she's talkin' about. PLEASE HELP!!!

gasoline removes everythiing-but it may also remove the finish-so i wouldnt try it....

A buddy told me to get a marine product for cleaning fiberglass boats.

for a marine cleaner try starbrite fiberglass cleaner and wax, or seapower fiberglass cleaner and wax. both do an excellent job and will get off pretty much any type of stain. apply like car wax.

I have two fiberglass showers. I use a product named "Gel-Gloss" that I get at Home Depot. The truth is, it's nothing more than slightly liquified car wax. It requires a fair bit of elbow grease, and the showers smell like car wax for a couple of days after I clean them, but it really does a great job of cleaning the fiberglass and leaving a shiny finish when I'm done.

I beg to differ, REAL men offer to help out in any way they can around the house, including cooking and cleaning.

My wife is willing to work at a job like me, so I am more than happy to do the housework with her.

BTW- Thanks to all for the tips, I"ll be moving out of my apartment soon and need to get those fiberglass showers and tubs looking like new!

WE have always used Baking soda and dishwashing liquid. Please avoid the Comet it will not do the fiberglass any good whatsoever.

Showers are supposed to be cleaned? I thought the act of washing yourself also cleaned the shower.

Are the stains calcuim, lime, iron etc? Or soap scum, gream, mud, ick & goo?

Use a wire brush on a drill and get earplugs for yourself when the inlaws get there.

I use Pine Sol and it has a nice smell. Get an Indutrial grade if you can find it. It doesn't hurt the fiberglass either. Hal

Get the cleaner that hangs on the shower head (can't remember the name) you push the button after each shower and never have to scrub it again. It works.

If you leave it dirty maybe it will look like some thing you purchased the way it looks --- and if you don't like the way it looks ---you can sand blast it -- and spray some paint on it like I do with my tractor parts ...

Only wimmins were born with grease in the elbow and short feet. That's so they can clean showers and stand up close to a sink for washing dishes.

That's just one of them evolution things. It's her job.

I get the same thing from my wife. Someone is comming for dinner. Help me clean the house. I tell my wife the house is good enough for us, why isn't it good enough for company. I don't know how I ended up on house cleaning detal, After 35 years it is a little late to stop now. Growing up Mom kept a very neat house, while raising three boys, even without Dad's help. As for your cleaning problem get some Simple Green. Stan

We also had a shower stall that would NOT come clean with any of the high dollar products, such as 409, Lime-away, CLR, etc. What I have found that works best and smells good too is GOJO orange pumice hand cleaner. Same stuff we use all the time to get our hands clean after working in the shop. Just wet a wash rag, put a little on the rag, work a small area at a time, rinse rag as gets dirty, then replenish rag. By the way, wife also has a cleaning business, and has used this for others, no gripes. Works great. Doug

Soap scum is probably what your talking about, but if you have rust stains "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner [not the works shower cleaner, too much work] will make it disappear! I use it any time I have rust stains. My shower stall is fiberglass. If the sink faucet drips leaving a stain, one squirt and its gone. No scrubbing what so ever. Be careful though, DON'T BREATHE THE FUMES.

Try ammonia--just the grocery store kind. A brush and a bit of scrubbing and the stuff goes away.

I agree. It comes in a pink can and you can buy it in either an aerosol or as a cream. The cream is a better value. It really works.

You guys ARE pu$$y whipped. It's not the end of the world, but jeez! My wife goes into a cleaning frenzy every time her mother is scheduled to appear. It's not MY problem! The real answer is to toss the inlaws. Mine used to visit for FOUR WEEKS in July when we lived in a place with a real short summer. I tried to run an exhaust hose in their bedroom but my wife stopped me.

Regarding any fiberglass tub, the next time around use the more-costly "acrylic" tub and problem solved. Second opton was mentioned in an earlier post---

We used "Starbright" brand rubbing compound (for boats ) and fiberglass cleaner wax. Did an amazing job.

Ok! time for another tool. Use the marine cleaner/polish, Star Brite works but lots of brands for boats out there. Auto parts, wally world, target etc. Buy one of those polishers they use on cars, or go cheap and a pad for the drill (slow Speed) Apply and polish off with the tool. Very little elbow grease and a VERY happy wife. Makes for a cozy inviroment. Bob

SOS Soap pads work for me. A lot of elbow grease is still required and I still keep looking for spray and rinse but no luck.
