VAC electric system info needed

Got a VAC that I have put in new rings and bearing and it’s running pretty good. Problem is the generator is bad and have to charge the battery to use the tractor. What would be the best option for a tractor that I don’t use often. Find someone to repair the generator, get a 6 bolt alternator or do a 12 bolt conversion?

IMO a Delco 10Si type alternator is the best realistic and practical option. Yes, you have to fab a mount and add a resistor to the coil and lights if you stay with the 6v originals, but the reliability is worth it.

I changed mine to 12 volt. I think you'll be happiest long term changing to 12 volt.

My dad still has a couple 6 volt tractors and he said the other day that 6 volt batteries are getting more expensive. Not that 12 volt ones are cheap, but 12 volt is much more common.

For cost and reliably going to 12 volts will save you $$$$ and pain. A Delco 10SI like used on a Chevy pickup no power any thing no AC will cost around $50 and is simple to wire up and many have life time warranties

Mine has a 12 volt system and a Classic battery which is about $60 from family run auto parts store in town.
Just had to modify the mounting bracket for the alternator and change the pulley on it for the wider belt.
I mounted the battery out from under the hood to make it easy to get to.
Cranks instantly summer or winter.
