Value Question on a feed/grain bin.

Morning ya all, what would a 17.5 ton feed bin/ grain bin be worth, about 20 years old, but in great shape. It is one like you would see at a grower for feed holding tanks, with the cone bottem for 4" auger. Would this work ok for storing good dry corn, or beans and small grains. I need to make an offer quick, but do not have a clue what it is worth.

anything less than $1800 would me a pretty good bargain,new would be around double that.20yrs isn't that old for a hopper tank if the cone isn't rusted from wet feeds not being cleaned out.It would be fine for storing grains so long as it is really dry before you put it in(around 10-12%)unless you have a small dryer to twist in the top of the bin(if you buy from an elevator,it will be dry anyways).Unless you have one yourself,you will need to hire someone with a lift trailer to take it down and stand it back up again on your site.A tank that big will need a cement pad under it too,may take 5 yds of cement,whatever gives you a big enough area to bolt it down with 10-12 inch thickness.pd

Given the nature of the item, if its worth $1,800, I'd offer $500- very limited market for these, not very portable, probably the owner would just like to get it out of there. You can always go up from there.

I would first offer $500 but have a grand in my pocket. I've been trying to find one of these relatively local to me. I'm eventually looking to install a corn fired boiler to heat the house and 2 shop buildings. I can buy shell corn by the semi load if I want to. This type of bin would be perfect. Grab it!

How long would you be keeping the corn in the bin before emptying out? If it is stored very long, say 3-4 months or longer there needs to be a way to blow air on it. Even good dry corn will sweat if left too long. I ran a grain elevator for over 15 years so I have some experience. As far as value I"d say everyone in right on target.

I bought and sold several in the late 90s. Sold an 800 bu wet bin for $900, bought a 1600 bu wet bin for $1600, no augers on either. Bought a Schuld feed tank about the size you're talking about for $1100, with 6 inch auger, conc pad included, on a turkey farm sale.Mover charged $100 to deliver and tip up tank and pad.

You can pull it down with tractor and nylon strap. hold it back with another tractor and nylon strap. leave final two legs bolted down it will just bend mount plate on those two as it is lowered. no big deal just weld new ones on. I moved two like that.
