very low oil pressure

to30 head gasket is out of it. was started and only carries 5lb oil pressure with ticking on top half of engine. the no oil pressure is caused by???? could the head gasket be causing this problem or is it internally?

What weight oil are you using? 10W30, 10W40,30W, and 15W40 would be recommended for engines in reasonable mechanical condition (depending on the ambient operating temperatures) and 20W50 for worn engines

Low oil pressure can be caused by a stuck open pressure relif valve, worn oil pump, and worn main and rod bearings.
Pull the valve cover and see if the top end is getting oil. If it is check the valve lash and reset as necessary.
If it doesn"t get oil, the hole from the rear camshaft bearing to the rocker shaft may be clogged. Running a small wire down it may help to clear it.

it pumps very little oil. took the line off the back of gauge and just trickles out. could it still b the head gasket? or oil pump. not sure what to look for

More than likely the mains are shot. That is where most of the oil pressure loss is.

using 10w30 oil. i put lucas in thought it would help. but nothing. going to start with head gasket first because i know its bad. water in oil. anything to look for with head off?

If you have water in the oil check for cracks in the block between the cylinder walls when you get the head off.

How long since you changed the oil filter.?
