I just acquired a '41 VO that was not running. I got the valves free (5 were stuck), new plugs and wires, magneto timed (previous owner took it off and didn't know how to put back). It will now start and run nicely at an idle, but coughs and dies when I attempt to throttle it up. I suspect the carb or fuel system - are there other things I should check? It has a Marvel Schebler TSX42 carb (has only idle stop and idle mix adjustments - no high speed needle); fuel tank was replaced by a lawn mower tank and it appears to be getting gas to carb. Have ordered carb repair kit. Mag is WICO XH. Other suggestions? Thanks.
