The original subject was "WalmartLowesTractor Supply".

I would like to know if walmart and lowes have any affilliation with each other. any stocks from each other. or any relationship within the owners. i have heard many rumors and would like to put all this to rest once and for all.

Three separate companies -- there is no rule saying that a board member could not be on all three boards -- why do you ask??

Debra,

Wal-Mart is a publically traded corporation using symbol WMT on the NYSE. It is headquartered in Rogers, AR.

Lowes is a publically traded corporation using symbol LOW on the NYSE. It is headquartered in Mooresville, NC.

TSC is a publically traded corporation using symbol TSCO on the NASDAQ. It is headquartered in Brentwood, TN.

These are three distinctly separate entities. Their "owners" are the scores of thousands of shareholders.

Tom in TN

Tractor Supply Co. was started in Minot,N.D. in 1938. The first store building is still standing but not used by TSC for years.

They must have thrown out the anti trust laws when it comes to Ma Bell. She now wants to own Dish Network. Along with Singular Wireless, home telephone service and Yahoo! internet service. Everything done in the early '80s to break it up has been forgotten.

Could be -- But these are 3 totally different companies. The antitrust laws, in this case, would prevent a monopoly, which would occur if Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, TSC, etc were allowed to merge. Original question implied, I think, if some of the big shots had some control (such as a board member) of more than one of the listed companies -- I do not know (or care).

Also I have noticed whenever a Home Depot comes to a new town so does Lowes. The same goes for Office Depot and Staples -- they are close too.

Simple, the followers are letting the first to build do the marketing studies. If WallMart builds a store in Bumfud AK they have a pretty good idea the market will suport it. Lowes or HD finds out through public records and says if it's good enough for Wally World it's good enough for us.

McDonalds.. Burger King.. Taco Bell.. SOS Etc. Etc.

They are all looking for a 100,000 population or in our area the town is only 45,000 pop but the region is over 125,000 so we have them all.

That has been talked about here in Michigan too. I know of 3 new Walmarts in the last few years, and there is a Lowes right next door, in the same development. And since Walmart does it's own developing, they might be inviting Lowes to participate in new developments. Once the store is built, Walmart sells the site to investor's and leases the store. I read that in the WSJ.

You sure about that Pooh Bear? Wouldn`t that only apply if all three companies were in the same business and they could in effect monopolize the market through collusion?

Well, I know SBC & AT&T merged, and AT&T merged with cingular. We've got DSL through SBC/AT&T Yahoo. Pretty sure they own Dish, but we've got DirecTV.

They're still competing with Time Warner who owns AOL and offers phone service, so it' ain't a monopoly yet....

AT&T is still working on aquiring Dish. They want to get it before 2009 when they expect a new Congress to stop them.
