water pump 175

The water pump for engine cooling started leaking & making noise on my MF 175, it has a 4 cyl. Perkins. Can I get the pump or fan & pump out or will I have to remove hood and radiator for removal & replacment? Any help and advice appreciated. Thanks

I changed the pump on our 175 a couple years ago and I'm sure that I did not remove the radiator. I probably took off the sheet metal, I've got to the point now where I always take it off first.

It is possible to remove the pump, without taking off the bonnet, etc. the most difficult part is removing the four bolts retaining the blades to the hub. If they have spring washers, it should not be so hard, but patience is the key. The pump can then be unbolted from the engine and removed from the side. The cowling remains in place.

Hi,
Would absolutely agree with Evan. Patience is the key. You will find it easier to remove the dynamo and side panel first. A good fitting spanner and a cup of coffee will help. It's a great saving when you consider the amount of work to remove the bonnet and radiator. Add to that whatever is involved if you have a cab fitted.

If the pump is anything like my 165, it will come out (barely!) without removing the radiator but you need patience to get the four bolts on the fan off. Put a thin piece of cardboard over the rad fins in front of the pump/fan, it does not take much wrangling with the fan to damage the fins and cause a leak. Been there, done that.
