WC gov problems -continued...

Fellas thanks for the ideas on my unstyled problem with gov or carb. I have been workin on gettin a ol 53 wd45 back together I bought this spring and hadnt got to workin on the ol WC yet. Thanks to mlpankey an Chuck for the ideas, I should mention I had been into the carb once, ya see when I got the ol gal outa the barn she wouldnt pop when i gave her her usual 2 cranks, gas was runnin out of the bowl so I pulled carb and found the float had gottin small crack in it and was (waterlogged)I repaired the leak in the float with a little solder, put her back together and she fired in 2 cranks like always. Now when I drove her round the pasture ther was no throttle range to speak of, I just figured the gov. gave out settin in the barn over winter, I had gave the ol gal a pretty good run comin back from local parade the fall before and all was well when I put her to bed for the winter. So some of you think this could be a carb problem instead of gov? I would like some suggestions on how to go bout trouble shootin the gov before I pull it and maybe can save some time if its a carb problem instead, Aint ther some trick where you tie a string to the carb linkage an un hook the gov. arm then try controlin tractor with string thottle and see if it reacts ok? If it does would that mean its the gov?? Lay all them good ol AC tips on me and Ill tear into her. Thanks again Hossman

ok with it running grab the rod going to the ca rb and move it to open up the carb . if it revs up then its not the carb . so then shut it down pull the throtle wide open at the throttle lever . make sure the gov arm pulls all the way back to nearly touching the gov housing if it dont adjust the rod till it does then go around to the carb side and unhook the linkage with the throttle still wide open and the carb wide open you shoul have to move the gov rod 1/8 inch to align the hole . then eveything is adjusted properly for the gov to control correctly . if you still dont get the rpms you need then roll it up on number one and remove the gov and make sure the weights move on the pins freely . one key thing to remember is that a working gov. keeps the rpms from going above the rated rpm govs that dont work let a tractor rev as high as the carb and valve springs will let it before the valves float. if you have any questions give me a call at 423-472-7071. i tractor pull and have spent alot of time with gov and varying rpms for wheel speed to make a tractor pull . my puller will run at 1800 to 5000 rpms with simple turn of the gov stop screw in top of the spring cover .

mlpankey, thanks alot for the info,as I said I,m finishin up on a WD45 project,should be done in a couple days then bout midweek I'll be tearing into the WC and I may in fact give ya a call for a little guidence on this Gov. I am fairly certin its a gov. problem as last time I messed with the WC I had as you mentioned pulled on the gov. rod to carb and got good rev up. The throttle lever on the other hand had since I drove it last gottin very "stiff" and would not hardly move ahead on the radius, and if it wasnt "locked" down in one of the notches would pop back on me. again thanks alot and Ill probly be givin ya a call. :lol: hossman in all this talk about govs with some others on here it made me think the shaft that comes out of the gov cover that the carb goes to could have broke the pin and be rollin inside and not opening up the carb you could tell if that happened by holding it and having some one move the throttle back and forth .it should try to work against you holding it if it doesnt thats the promblem.
