wc serial number location

I bought an allis wc I am a farmall guy. I dont know where the serial number is located at.

On the back of the rearend , dead center in the middle it will show Tractor No. WC #####. Unless it's a wartime tractor with a steel rearend, then there is about a 12" circle on the back of the rearend and it will be stamped on the outer ring of that circle.

How would I tell the difference. I looked it over and didnt see anything with wc#####.

The stardard WC rears have round tubes and the steel rears have square tubes. If it's steel the hand stamped #'s are only about 1/4" tall and hard to find sometimes.

Most WCs have a one-piece cast iron rear end. In the center of the differential, on the rear side, is a flat area, about 2x5 inches. Top of that flat will be the cast words..."Tractor No", and below that is the stamped serial number, beginning with "WC".

Wartime WC with the stamped rear end....outer ends (finals) are cast, and bolted to the center (differential and axle) section which is steel, like a typical truck differential. Rear section of that differential looks like a curved cap, about a foot in diameter. Where that cap is welded to the main part of the differential....maybe half inch wide ring where the two pieces meet, at the top of the differential, you will find the serial number, and it will start with an "S", meaning "steel" rear end. Are you sure it is a WC? A pic would help.

The pics came thru now. It is a wartime WC with the steel rearend. If you are in back of it and looking at the round center of the rearend it should be stamped at about 11 or 12 oclock on the outside edge of that circle. You might need a steel brush to get the rust and crud out of the numbers. Assuming the steel rearend is original the tractor would be between 1944 and 1946. The engine serial # is behind the carburator on a flat spot on the block and will read W#######.

The manifold, carb, seat and bracket are gone. I am planning to be back up there this weekend I will look again. Thank you for the help.
