WD-45 engine noise

I need help identifying noise from engine. Sounds like clicking from a magneto only much louder. It clicks about twice per engin revolution when hand cranking. The valve cover and pan were removed and everything looks normal. What are we missing? The noise was quite loud when running. Thanks for your help.

Pull the rockers off and check the rocker stands. The tall version of the stands on the WD45/D17 etc will crack. Had one on my puller do it, and after beating my head against the wall trying to find the source of the noise, I found it. Cracked right along the casting lines of the stand, and when I pulled the rocker shaft apart, it fell in 2 pieces. Also, all of these motors Ive been around have a bit of lifter noise as well. Hope this helps.

Is the noise low or high on the engine. If low it could be a rod bearing and if it is a rod you will need to pull the oil pan to check. If high it could be the rockers as the other guy said. If more to the center and forward could be the water pump or other such thing that runs off the belt

Pull the governor ASAP and verify that pins and governor weights are secure. It maybe about ready to eat the governor weights. It easy to check and can be really bad if they break.
