wd 45 piston question

i was told by a well known allis man that flat tops is the way to go. he told me how to put my engine together and i am well satified and have very good compression. i know some other guys are going to say different but i pull against another wd45 that has the wd45 dish pistons in it and it doesnt have the kick that mine does.

Thanks for the responses guys. Im running a set of 4 inch 175 pistons with a cranking pressure of 155 psi. I need a bit more power.

Use a 8 inch rod such as a h rod or a lerio or a dodge rod and a flat top piston to get into 12 to 14.1 compression range if you want torque and power. these mickey mouse compression ratios dont work well on a small bore allis 4 to 4.125 bore being small . dont use a cast aluminum piston at these ratios. forged is the word.

Ok ML, what work has to be done to the H rods in order for them to work? Or is there a piston maker who makes a piston that will get me to 10:1 or better with the stock rods? Im just tired of having it handed to me in 35, 4, and 4500lb classes by olivers. I have a complete E gleaner motor sitting behind the shed I can build too. I just dont wanna drop a few grand on a bigger bore and stroked crank.

i think your cheapest way out would be get someone to offset grind your wd45 crank to fit the buda diesel rods and go with a wd flattop piston overbore which would be 4 1/8 inch piston. that is what i have in my wd45 and it will pull second gear and sometimes third gear and not stall out in 4 and 4500 classes. it has out pulled 88 olivers and m farmall in the 5 and 5500 lb classes and never stalled out. i have used sleeves pistons and rods in mind and been running it for 3 to 5 years now with no problems. it has been pulled up to the 6500lb classes. i have less than 500 in the pistons, sleeves, rods and offset grind on crank. money well spent around here. my compression is around 10 to 1 and i run 110 racing fuel in mind.

Compression is where it is at. I think for the money just use your pistons(I like the power craters) and rods. just stroke it 3/4 of a inch. Call ML he knows exactly what will work.

If you can find the lerio rods nothing has to be done. the he rods require turning the crank . If your going to build a small motor you better get the compression up higher than 10 to 1 . Ive seen 226 engines with 13.1 making 80 hp . jmho
