My wd-45 is hard to get in and out of gear , so I removed the top and all 3 forks look fine and so do the gears . Do I need to ride the clutch a little or disengage the P.T.O.? . I don't know much about the tractor since I just bought it and don't have a manual.

You may need to adjust the clutch some because it may not be releasing like it should. Also are you 100% sure it is a WD45 not a WD?? They look the same but are in fact 2 different models

It's a wd -45 since I run the serial # and it was built in late 55 and he shifter is curvered. It seems to lock in gear and that's why I took off the top. At present I managed to shift the gears into neutral with a long screwdriver and then put the top back on-- it was difficult lining up the forks. I jacked up one tire to spin it to ensure it was in neutral because I need to load it to float it home next week.
